The Gazette and Daily, York, COUNTY Thursday Mornin' September 30, 1943 10 sacs Fawn Grove Chapter Officers And Initiates Fawn Grove Eleven boys were initiated into the Fawn chapter, Future Farmers of America, in the Agriculture room of the Fawn Township Vocational school Friday evening. The following boys were initiated and received the first degree of "Green Hands:" Robert Anderson, Milton Clark, John Cotton, Nelson, Herbert, Wendell Hostler, Billy Miller, Elmer Rid-gon, Jack Webb, Dale Wilson, Richard Perry and Robert Wilson. In order to attain the first degree, the boys must be enrolled in Vocational Agriculture, must have facilities for a program of supervised farming, must recite from memory the Future Farmer creed and receive a majority vote of the local chapter. The 1943-44 officers of the organization are as follows: President, Otho Crowl; vice-president, Everett Thompson; secretary, John Strawbridge; treasurer, Raymond Matson; reporter, Irvin Dollenger; adviser, Prof. H.

Palmer Hopkins; watch dog, George Jamison. Following the meeting, a social period was held and pretzels and soft drinks were served. Meetings Scheduled The Ladies Auxiliary, of the Citizens' Volunteer Fire company will hold a mystery meeting Friday evening. The members will convene at the fire hall at 7:30 o'clock. The Woman's Society of Christian Service of St.

Paul's Methodist church will meet Friday evening at the home of Mrs. Raymond Miller. Sgt. and Mrs. William A.

Heaps left Sunday for Manhattan, after spending sometime with Mr. and Mrs. Charles Pyle and Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Heaps.

Miss Evelyn Richardson, York R. spent the week-end with her father, W. T. Richardson. Kenneth Dollenger had charge of the meeting of the Litreary society of the borough schools.

Friday afternoon. The following program was given: Story, David 1000 At War Bond Movie In Glen Rock Glen Rock Over 1,000 people, attended the movie, "War Against Mrs. Hadley," Monday at the Glen theatre, held to help boost the Third War Loan. The theatre was filled for the afternoon show and at the one 7 p. while at the 9 p.

m. show the theatre was comfortably filled. District Chairman I. R. Knapp presided and announced that $155,000 worth of bonds were sold in the District.

He introduced Chief Electrician' mate Stewart Sheffer and his son, Edward Sheffer, a seaman in the navy, both of whom gave talks on their experiences. The veteran of World War 1, was wounded in Iceland in this conflict and was awarded the navy cross. Approximately $1,000 worth of bonds and stamps were sold at the theatre, Monday night and Mr. Knapp said that Tuesday the reports at the banks and the post-office were very gratifying. After the movie "God Bless America," was sung by the audience.

J. E. Gottschall, music director in the schools, led the singing. Jack Hedrick, son of Mr. and Mrs.

F. R. Hedrick. a first grader in the local schools, sprained his right arm, in a fall at his home. He was treated by Dr.

Burns, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Grove and other relatives. Milton Morris, Harry Jones and Herbert Jones spent a few days at Berlin, Md. Mr.

and Mrs. Charles Wilson, Mr. and Mrs. Russell Wilson and children, Richard and Elizabeth Ann, York, were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs.

Helen Myers Klinedinst, also of Spring Grove, who was inducted into the Army July 14. Prior to his induction he was employed by J. B. Fishel bakery. At present he is stationed at Fort Eustis, with the anti-aircraft division.

Mrs. Delila Orr. 97, Dies Near Fawn Grove Fawn Grove Mrs. Delila J. Orr, widow of Mordecai J.

Orr, died at 11:30 o'clock Tuesday night at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Bradford Scott, near here. Death resulted from infirmities incidental to advanced age. Mrs.

Orr was 97 years old. A life-long resident of this community, Mrs. Orr was a member of Mt. Olivet Methodist church. Surviving besides Mrs.

Scott are five sons, Harry, Clarence and Cyrus Orr, all of Whiteford; William Orr, Stewartstown, and Frank Orr, Delta; eight grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Funeral services will be held from the Scott home Friday at 2 p. m. Rev. Malcolm Wright, pastor of Mt.

Olivet church, will officiate. Interment will be made in Mt. Olivet cemetery. Funeral Director W. Howard Webb has charge of arrangements.

Neff, Red Lion. 18-U Ad. Water Shortage Becomes Acute Spring Grove Water Co. Installs pumps in Pigeon Hills to augment supply. Water in new dam to be held in reserve.

Spring Grove The water shortage in Spring Grove is reported to be growing more acute as day follows day without any rainfall. Although the Spring Grove Water company built a new impounding dam last year and therefore has a fairly large reserve supply, nevertheless, pumps are being installed at the company ore banks in the Pigeon Hills to augment the supply. The water in the new dam is being held in reserve. No restrictions have as yet been placed on the use of water for domestic purposes, but may become necessary if the drought continues any length of time. Less than one inch of rain has been recorded during the last five weeks.

Install Officers Officers of the Senior Luther league, who were elected recently were installed at a special candlelight service held Sunday evening in St. Paul's Lutheran church. Officers installed are as follows: President, Miss Lucy Jane Hersh-ey; vice president, Miss Virginia Stauffer; secretary, Miss Mildred Klinedinst; treasurer, Harvey Schrum; educational secretary, Miss Mary Markel; life service secretary, Stewart Strausbaugh; missionary secretary, Miss Miriam Miller; and publicity secretary, Mrs. Charles E. Myers.

Need $492,000 To Reach Goal Hanover campaign officiate optimistic quota of $2,454,000 in Third War Loan will be reached by selling $123,128 daily next four days. Hanover War bonds must be sold at the rate of $123,128 a day for the next four days for Hanover to reach its goal of Sales Tuesday showed a decided spurt, bonds being bought to the tune of $134,531.75, bringing the total sales to date to The balance yet remaining to be sold is $492,512.25. Campaign officials are optimistic after Tuesday's results, and the advance reports of yesterday's sales were gratifying. The suggestion has been offered that when the quota is reached, the residents of the town should be advised of the fact by having the church bells ring out the announcement. Mrs.

George Myers Funeral services for Mrs. Bertha Myers, wife of George Myers, 300 North Franklin street, who died at the Hanover General hospital Sunday morning, were conducted yesterday at the W. A. Feiser Funeral home. A requiem mass followed in St.

Vincent's Catholic church, with the rector, Rev. Mark P. McElwee, as the celebrant. Interment was made in St. Joseph's Catholic cemetery.

D. 2, are the parents of a son, Clyde Raymond, born Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Mikesell, 38 Frederick street, announce the birth of a son, Henry Jacob, born Sept.

26 at the Hanover General hospital. Mrs. Mikesell was the former Mary Brown. Reports Meat Stamps Stolen Henry J. Malkus, 223 Princess street, reported to local police yesterday that someone had entered his garage at the rear of his home on Tuesday night and had stolen his ODT truck certificate and a number of meat ration coupons, the latter listed as two, 100-point and two, 5-point coupons issued to him.

Starts Naval Training Robert Muntz, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry W. Muntz, South Franklin street, who enlisted in the Navy at Baltimore last week, eft Tuesday to begin his basic training at the U. S.

Naval Training Station, Bainbridge, Md. Spending Leave At Home Seaman 2r Lachlan VV. Krebs. who recently completed his boot training, which was interrupted by a serious illness confining him to the hospital at the U. S.

Naval Training Station, Sampson, N. is spending a short leave at his home, South Franklin street. Upon returning to the station, he will be assigned possibly for further training, and qualify for the rating of a petty officer. Budget Drive Progresses The first reports of the ward captains were turned in yesterday morning covering the canvass of the town for the annual budget drive of the Hanover Young Women's Christian association, which is being conducted this week. A total of $1,026.69 was reported for the first two day's canvass.

The goal set for the drive is Windsor Girl Scouts Enroll New Member Windsor A meeting of Girl Scout Troop No. 1 was held Tuesday evening in the scout lodge. The Golden Arrow patrol had charge, with Delores Nicholas leading the opening exercises. Charlotte Patterson, a new member, joined the Golden Arrow patrol. Plans were made to give a party for the Boy Scouts Friday evening at 8:15 o'clock, in the scout room on Church street.

A game of darts was played. Visits Soldier Son Mrs. Elias Frey, Windsor R. D. 1, spent the week-end visiting her son, Hannigan Frey, in camp at Greensboro, N.

C. Two sons of Mr. and Mrs. Frey are i the armed forces. Benjamin Frey is stationed at Camp Shelby, Miss.

The former was called for service in June and the latter in August. Mrs. Frey was accompanied by her pon-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Hilt, this place, and her daughter-in-law, Mrs.

Hannigan Frey, Dallastown. HAS LEAVE BEFORE GOING OVERSEAS Lt. Mildred E. Klineyoung, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.

Harry Klineyoung, Railroad, a member of the Army Nurses Corps, stationed at Army Hospital, Atlantic City, spent a seven-day leave with her parents in Railroad, and friends in Baltimore and New York city, preparatory to leaving for overseas. Lt. Klineyoung graduated from New Freedom High school, and the Maryland General Hospital as president of her class. She did general nursing at Union Memorial hospital, and also at Columbia Presbyterian Medical center, New York city, prior to enlistment. Last February she was commissioned a SLt.

and has been accepted for overseas duty. Relative Of White Hall Residents Dies White Hall The funeral of William McComas, well known among relatives and friends in this community, who died at his home in Bel Air after a lingering illness, was held Monday afternoon from his late home. Interment was in Ihe cemetery of the Bethel Presbyterian church. Rev. Samuel Blizzard, who has served as pastor of Chestnut Presbyterian church has resigned and gone to Hartford, where he will prepare- for Missionary work in India by studying the language of that country.

The reunion of the Standeford family was held Sunday at Eben-ezer Methodist church. A fund of $1,000 was raised for the perpetual care of the cemetery connected with the church. Mr. and Mrs. Samuel W.

Gil-brath had as their dinner guests Sunday their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Sloan, Baltimore. Ralph Sloan left Monday for induction into the army. Mrs.

Irene Weil, Baltimore, is the guest of her cousin, Mrs. James M. Whiteford. Josephine Jordon who has been visiting in Washington for the past several weeks has returned to her home. Lutheran W.M.S.
