Curtis Lee Farris BLOSSOM Curtis Lee Farris, 24, of Blossom, died Friday, Feb. 14, 1997, in a one vehicle accident north of Blossom. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 17, in the Knights of Honor Cemetery with the Rev.

Larry Bridges officiating. The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Sunday at Wood Funeral Homes in Deport. Mr. Farris was born May 29, 1972, in Dallas, a son of Billy Wayne and Lawana Brown Farris.

He was employed as a machine operator for Paris Industries. He is survived by his parents of Blossom; a son, Cody Lee Farris of. Woodland; grandparents, Juli Farris of Paris, and Sam and Bessie Brown of Sulphur Springs; three half-brothers, Larry Conaway of Powderly, Chris Farris of Ardmore, and Mike Farris of Hawaii. He was preceded in death by a half sister, Sherri Jean Farris and a half Brother, James Conaway. Pallbearers will be Greg Barnes, Ricky Chennault, Dean Brown, Norris Farris and Larry White.

Ethel Hutehinson Monk BOG ATA Ethel Hutehinson Monk, 96, of Bogata, formerly of Deport, died Saturday, Feb. 15, 1997, in East Texas Medical Center in Clarksville. Graveside services be at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 17, in Highland Cemetery, with the Rev.

Glynn Renfro officiating. Wood Funeral Home has charge of arrangements. MrsV Mohk was bom-June'18, 1900 in' Deport; a daughter'bf Doak and Eddie Jeffus Hutehinson. Her husband, Sam Monk, preceded her in death Jan. 3, 1978.

She lived her entire life in the Deport Area. Her parents and her husband were prominent farmers. She had been a resident of Red River Healthcare of Bogata since 1985. Her husband wrote songs and music and taught gospel music. She was one of his faithful followers.

She is survived by a son, Charles E. Monk of San Antonio; two nephews, Henry Skidmore of Dallas and John Bennet of Brenham; two nieces, Mary Dolce and Fay Hupfeld, both of Dallas. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Jimmy Monk. Marjorie Hstiand Wright Mrs. Edgar (Marjorie Hetland) Wright 81, of Paris, died Thursday, Feb.

13, 1997 in St. Joseph's Hospital and Health Center. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 17, in Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev.

Marvin Williams officiating. Burial will be in the Columbarium at the Military Academy, West Point, N.Y. Mrs. Wright was born May 30, 1915, in Portland, a daughter of Taril Jonas Hetland and Hazel Forest Hetland. She studied business 'administration at Oregon State University and served as business manager with Bank of America.

She married Edgar Wright a direct descendant of George W. Wright, "Father of Paris, Texas," on Feb. 23, 1940. in Bradford, McKean County, Penn. She was a member of the Cosmos Club of Paris.

Marjorie Wright's greatest devotion was making a home for her family. As an Army wife, she had moved 10 times in 20 years between 1940-1960, from Manila, the Philippine Islands to Paris, France, and many points between. Always within 24 hours, she imposed order on the chaos of moving into a strange new house, delivered home- cooked meals on the table and created a sense of stability in a shifting world. There was always a place for guests or new neighbors, and room for departing friends. She treasured her family and never failed to appreciate company in her home.

Retiring along with her husband to Paris 'in 1977, she joined the strong sense of history, community and warm friendships, particularly at Cosmos, which enlivened and enriched her time in Texas. Surviving is her husband, Col Edgar Wright U.S. Army West Point Class of 1929. He fought on Bataan, The Philippine Islands, in World War II, evaded capture and later in 1944 formed a guerrilla band against the Japanese in the Philippines. He resides in Paris.

Other survivors are two sons, Lt. Col. Edgar Wright ffl, U.S. Army of Bedford, West Point Class of 1966 and manager with the Raytheon Company, and James Taril Wright of Alameda, manager with Sun Microsystems Computer Company; a idaughter, two grandsons, Andrew Jefrery Wright of Bedford, and Travis William Wright of Alameda, and a sister, Patricia Louise Garigliano of Gridley, Calif. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Chaster F. Upchurch Chester F. Upchurch, 76, of 1975 Bella Vista, died Saturday, Feb. 15, 1997, at St. Joseph's Hospital and Health Center.

Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 17, at Bright- Holland Funeral Home, with Dr. Sidney Young Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m.

Sunday at the funeral home. Mr. Upchurch was bom Sept. 23,1920, in English, Texas, a son of Leonard and Lena Hogan Upchurch. He married Dorothy Stockton March 7, 1940, in Paris.

He retired from Texas Power Light Co. after 36 years of service. While with he was an accountant and auditor. After his retirement in 1982, he went to work for Bright-Holland Funeral Home, and worked until shortly before his death. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and a member of the Harry Wooiston Sunday School Class.

He was a member of the Golden Kiwanis Club. He served in the Army during World War II and was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the Scottish Rite. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Freeman Upchurch of Rowlett and Tim Upchurch and his wife, Debbie, of Paris; a daughter, Judy and her husband Joe Boyd Jones of Paris, 10 grandchildren and four great- grandchildren; a brother, Joe Upchurch, and a sister, Mrs. Billy McCooi of Duncanvilie. Johnny Bruce Pyles of Houma, and a former Paris resident, died Thursday, Feb. 13, 199.7, in Houma. He was born in Paris May 15, 1952, and is survived by his wife, Dora Cope of Houma; a son Johnny Bruce Pyles II; a step-son, David Pyles; three stepdaughters, Aleasha, Sue Ann and Nicki, all of Houma; his mother, Loyce Garess of Houma; his father, John W. Pyles Galveston; a step-father, Randall D. Garess; five brothers, Ronnie Pyles of Paris, Danny Garess of Paris, Kenneth Pyles; Douglas Pyles and Tommy Garess, all of Houma; a sister, Jacqueline Jetton of Paris, and three grandchildren.

He also is survived by an aunt and uncle, Askimo and Annie Smith of Deport. Services are pending in Houma. Dannie diner HALE CENTER Services for Donnie Cannon, 59, of Paris, will be held at First Baptist Church in hale Center at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 17, 1997.

Silas Short of Post will officiate. Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Pari by Freeman Funeral Home of Hale Cener. Mr. Cannon died Friday, Feb. 11 He was born in Hale Center March 5, 1937.

He moved 1 from Hale Center in 1970 to Dallas, Boxelder and then Cuthand before moving to Paris in 1991. Survivors include two sons, Steve Cannon of Bogata and Shaun Cannon of Detroit; a daughter, Deaun Jackson of Paris; three John Wayne Cannon of Nevada, David Cannon of Oklahoma City and Leon Cannon of Cuthand; a sister, Lila Simmons of Cuthand and five grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Gary Cannon, Brad Cannon, Mark Cannon, Arthur Cannon, Tommy Simmons and Terry Honorary pallbearers will be J. G. Cannon, Arch Ray Moseley, hal Nichols and Buddy Nichols.

HONEY GROVE Mrs. Odell Walcott Johnson, 86, of Honey Grove, died Thursday, Feb. 13, 1997, in Methodist Hospital of Dallas. She was born Sept. 2,1910.

in Fannin County, a daughter of Jessie Waicott and Mattie Jean Sanders. She married Maquestia J. Johnson Oct. 14, 1927, in Honey Grove and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Eighth Street Methodist Church of Honey Grove and the Eastern Star Lodge.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 17, at Eighth Street Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Jackie Chambers officiating.

Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Honey Grove under direction of Cooper- Sorrells Funeral Home. The family will receive visitors from 6-8 p.nv Sunday at the funeral home. Survivors include two daughters, Chiquita Steward of San Fernando, and Charmion Polk of Fort Worth; three sons, Luther David Johnson and Maquestia J. Johnson both of Honey Grove, and Rodriquez D. Johnson of Gainesville; 23 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and five great-great- grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1969. Pallbearers will be Maquestia Johnson Maquestia Johnson III, Luther David Johnson, Rodriquez Johnson, August Johnson and Rodney Johnson. COOPER Cy Peters born in Charleston, Texas, Aug. 31, 1935, was called home Friday, Feb. 14, 1997, after losing a courageous battle with cancer.

He grew up in East Texas and moved to Dallas to attend Adamson High School, where he met and married his high school sweetheart; He and Mary Lou raised seven children in Dallas. He was a member of Ferris Masonic Lodge AFAM 460. He was preceded in death by his father, Jolly Peters. She attended Baldwin and Gibbons High School and married Frankie Snowton. She was a member of Tudor Street Church of Christ and Heroine of Jerico and North Star Chapter OES 396 Matron. She was preceded in death by her husband. Survivors include two sons, Joe E. Alexander and Michael L.

Walton of Los Angeles; 10 grandchildren three great-grandchildren. Filing for Paris City Council begins Monday Cherit News Staff Writer Filing for a seat on Paris City Council begins Monday and ends Wednesday, March 19.

The municipal election will be 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday, May 3. Seats are up for Districts 4, 5 and 7. District 4 encompasses the northern part of the city while District 5 is generally southeast and southwest of the Municipal election for seats in Districts 4, 5, and 7 will be held Saturday, May 3 city. District 7 is northeast and east of the city.

Mayor Eric Clifford, representing District 7, plans to run for a second term as does Councilman Alan Boyd representing District 4. Councilman Richard Hunt, representing District 5, could not be reached for comment. "1 want to get the swimming pool out there (on Clement Road) and get some ballparks out there and on the Loop, and finish cleaning up the city," Clifford said while discussing his decision to seek another term. Boyd also wants to see several projects finished including the new fire station and substations and upgrading the police department. Qualifications for running for city council include: Texas resident for 12 continuous months and 6 months within the district, registered voter with no felonies or having been declared mentally incompetent.

Citizens interested in serving on the city council need to complete a candidate application at the city secretary's office in the city hall annex during business hours Monday through Friday..
