23. Funeral services for Mrs. Beulah Trout, wife of Dennis Trout, a former resident of this place, who died at Phoenix, were held today at the W. Howard Webb funeral home, Fawn Grove. The pallbearers were: Herbert Almoney, Marshall Wilson, Maynard McDole and John Walker friends of the deceased.

Rev. R. R. Miller, pastor of the local Methodist church, officiated. Interment was made in the Mt.

Brief services were held at the late residence at 12 o'clock noon with further obsequies in the United Brethren church, Thurmont, at 2 o'clock.

Rev. Wayne Lutz, pastor of Cana-dochly Reformed church, officiated at the home with Rev. Naugle in charge at the church. A quartet from Thurmont church sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Good Night And Good Morning." The pallbearers w-ere: Maurice, Donald, Washington, Randolph, Oscar, Raymond and Wilson Wilhide, all sons of the deceased. Interment was made in the cemetery adjoining Thurmont II.

Mrs. Lydia A. Gipe Matthew, widow of William H. Matthew, died at 5:30 o'clock Saturday morning at her home, Red Lion R. D.

2, near this place. She had been in ill health for the past 20 months following a fall in which she fractured her left hip. She was aged 75 years. Mrs. Matthew, daughter of the late Henry and Elizabeth Gipe, was born in Chanceford township.

She has been a membe'r of St. Paul's United Brethren (Chapel) church congregation for the past 40 years and the, "Sunday school class taught by Norman Stabley. Surviving are the following sons and daughters: Edward Matthew, at home; Mrs. Edwin Fry, York R. D.

Mrs. Charles Hartman, Dallastown; William C. Matthew, Dallastown; Oliver C. Matthew, address unknown; John E. Matthew, York R.

D. 3, and Mrs. Roy Wineka. Dallastown. She also leaves two brothers.

Wesley Gipe, Windsor, and Daniel Gipe, Philadelphia; 16 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 o'clock Tuesday morning with brief rites at the late home and further obsequies in Shenberger's Evangelical church, near New L'ridgeville. Rev. Ell wood 10. During the evening a mock wedding was with Rev. D. R. Fair, pastor of St. Paul's United Brethren church, of which both are members serving as the minister.

A Christmas "The Christmas That Almost will be presented by "The Pirates At Sea" with the following cast: Red Lion, Doc. -3. Yuletide festivities in lied I.ion will reach their climax Tuesday evening with a varied program of community doings and special services in local churches. For Christmas day, only one community affair is scheduled. The tirst activity for Tuesday will be the annual distribution of Christmas baskets to the homes of needy families in Red Lion and vicinity in the afternpon by the Red Lion R.

V. O. Elks, No. 1592. Officials of the lodge said today that between 40 and 50 baskets will be given out this year.

If the weatherman cooperates, Santa Claus will come to Red Lion i real Christmas style Tuesday evening when the Sons of Legion of this place will deliver toys and clothing to needy kiddies. According to plans announced "Old Kris Krin-gle" will make his rounds in a sleigh if conditions are. suitable, starting from the Legion home at 6:15 o'clock. A truck will be used if snow is not here by that time. Almost 400 toys and 150 garments are to be distributed and it is that approximately 90 children will be served this year through the efforts of the Sons of Legion.

In addition to many toys which have been collected and repaired by the organization, many new toys have been purchased through financial aid of business men of Red Lion. Band To Play Carols Another new Yuletide feature for this community will be presented at 7 o'clock Tuesday evening when the full membership of the Red Lion Concert band will begin a tour of the streets of the town to play Christmas carols. Alvin M. Hilde-brand will direct the band, which will play for about two and one-half hours at various points in the borough. Daniel P.

Keener, business manager, announced today that band members are urged to report at the engine house promptly at 7 o'clock so the tour can begin on time. In other years, a small group of band members would play carols on the streets in the early morning but the change has been made so more persons can enjoy the music and more parts of town can be visited. Red Lion churches will observe the coming of Christmas day with Christmas eve services beginning at 11 o'clock while the service at Emmanuel Reformed church, Freys-ville, will start at 7:30 p. m. That program will include: Trumpet call to worship, Charles Stein, anthem, "Unto You is Born a selection.

"The Star In. The Christmas Sky," male sextet; sermon, "The Light of Life," Rev. Dr. O. K.

At Bethany United Brethren lice have been receiving a number of complaints from owners of automobiles during the past few days that articles have been stolen from their cars while parked at various places around the town. In most of the cases, the cars have been left unlocked and the merchandise and other articles left in plain sight of the thieves, who have simply to open the door and make off with what they wish to steal.

Members of the police force have been making a careful check on parked cars and have several persons under suspicion. Police authorities have been called upon to try and check the unusual amount of thefts of Christmas tree bulbs placed in the decorations about the doorways and homes in the various sections of town. Every day they receive a half dozen or so complaints, in some cases just a few lights have been stolen and in others the whole decoration of light bulbs have been removed. Members of the force in plain clothes have been assigned to check the residential districts in the evenings and several youths have been placed under suspicion and their names turned in for questioning. Play Christmas Carols The Knights of Pythias band, under the direction of Edward Go-brecht, gave a half hour concert in Center square this evening, presenting a program of Christmas music and other band numbers suitable to the holidav season.

John H. Little Funeral services for John H. Little, retired cigar manufacturer and former chief burgess of Hanover, who died early Saturday morning at his home. 210 High street were held this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from his late residence. The services were conducted by Rev, Dr.

Harry Hursh Beidel-man, pastor of St. Matthew's Lutheran church of which he had been a member. Burial was made in Mt. Olivet cemetery. Six nephews of the deceased served as pallbearers, they were: Sterner C.

Houck, Henry A. Sell, Melvin G. Henry, Merritt Sterner. Roy Shanefelter and Paul E. Sell.

William H. Bortner Funeral services for William Henry Bortner, Hanover R. D. 3, who died Friday morning at his home after an extended illness were held this afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the W. A.

Feiser funeral home, Carlisle street. Further services were conducted in St. John's Lutheran church, Abbottstown, by-Rev. John R. Strevig, who officiated.

Burial was made in the Lutheran cemetery at Abbottstown. Serving as pallbearers were: Harry King, Roy Craumer. John Orndorff and John Luckenbaugh. Mrs. Elias J.

Blocker Mrs. Emma J. Blocker, wife of Elias J. Blocker, died at 3 o'clock this morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John J.

Berwager, 605 Frederick street, with whom she had been residing for the past 10 months. Death followed an extended illness. Anna Mae Chief," Philip Pirate." m. with a movie program at the Lion theatre. Commander Herbert Smith, of the Legion has requested members of that organization to report at the theatre in uniform at 8:30 o'clock to assist in handling the children. At the theatre, in addition to the movies, several entertaining features have been arranged and prizes will be awarded. After the program at the theatre, the kiddies, headed by the American Legion Drum and Bugle corps, will march to the Elks home on West Broadway, where they will be given treats.

The show is entirely free and open to all children of Red Lion and vicinity. Preparations are made to handle more than 1300 kiddies. As usual, business in Red Lion will be at a standstill Christmas day. Stores, factories and commercial establishments will close and the following holiday regulations have been announced for the local post office: All windows will be closed the entire day; no deliveries' by town or rural carriers; mail deposited at the office will be dispatched: mail addressed to lock boxes will be distributed therein; special delivery mail will be handled in the usual manner and collection frnm street boxes will be made starting at 5 p. m.

Two deliveries were mad" by town carriers Sunday so the office could handle the last-minute rush. Children's Programs Given Children's Christmas programs were presented in four local Sunday schools. The program at Bethany United Brethren Sunday school was given Sunday morning with Clarence Sterner; "Third Shauck; Roger Glessner, Pirate," Jean John Spangler; Thomas Forry; Yuletide Play Tonight Near Thomasville Thomasville, Dec. 23. S. Elects Officers The annual election of the Holtz-schwamm Union Sunday school was held Sunday with the following re-suite: President, George M.
