Right Turn on Red Light Starting July 1 Starting next Monday, July 1, motorists in Iowa will be permitted to make a right turn when facing a steady red stop light after they have come to a complete stop unless a sign is in place prohibiting such a turn. Motorists are cautioned that they must yield to any other traffic in the intersection, including pedestrians. The law is in effect all over Iowa except where local communities specifically prohibit it. Commissioner Charles W. Larson of the Iowa Public Safptv Department DO in ted out that this law is in effect in 17 states and does help the flow of traffic, but "one must be very observant before entering the intersection, especially for bicycles and motorcycles." "We know some accidents will occur if people do not look carefully for the traffic and pedestrians entering the intersection. It must be remembered that they have a green light and may not expect another vehicle," commissioner Larson stated. Larson emphasized that collisions with other motor vehicles account for 67 per cent of the motorcycle accidents and 100 per cent of all fatal bicycle crashes with the majority of these occurring at intersections. "It will be the responsibility of the driver making the turn on a red light to look for the sometimes hard to see motorcycle and bicycle and, of course, the riders of those vehicles should anticipate vehicles that may be entering the intersection," stated Commissioner Larson. The new right turn law will add another possible conflict situation to these intersections. Consequently, the vehicle driver will have to be very cautious when making a turn to insure yields the right-of-way to all vehicles using the intersection. Maybe it's because we've never talked much about the LARGE loans we make. Fact is, we're a "No Ceiling" LARGE LOAN institution. Of course, if all it takes to cover your requirements is $300 or so, no sense to borrow more. But if you need more ... up into the five figures, for example . . . remember, we make these LARGE loans every day. Come in and talk over your financial needs, anytime. All of them. We'll think small, if that's what you want. But remember, we also think BIG! w6n\akc njo eople MID.STATBS FINANCE CO. 528 N.
