--There could not he found a board of County Commissioners who would handle the county's purse i more care and economy than Messrs. We arc personally and well acquainted Mr. Daily, find know him lo be an honust and clear-headed business man. Tlie county has never had a better commissioner than he will make.

Mr. Nichols is about the youngest man on the ticket; but he is, notwithstanding, entirely lilted for County Commissioner. Reasons for Voting Against Mr Garey. Perhaps it would be sufficient to Fay generally, we arc opposed to the election of Mr. Garey because he is the standard bearer of the- republicans.

This is nn all suflicicnt reason no Democrats can support him, and we do not know that it is really njccssary to give any other reasbu. If any other were necessary, it can be found in the peculiar debasement of the republican parly in the State, and especially in Caroline county. Sold to the highest bidder at public sale, aud that bidder is Mr. Garey. Democrats, Republicans, Reformers, Tax-Payers, nnd olher.s (who ever you are) p.uuc nnd think of it.

Was ever any transaction more degrading or debasing If the record ot the Itepublienn party in Ibis county heretofore was as white as snow, tho present adjustment of matters within its lines, should deter any man, whatever his political faith, Iroin supporting cither Mr. Garey, or any other of the gentlemen composing the republican ticket. Thero is no reason why man who is a Democrat in national not be one in local allairs, as likewise a man who profesbcs to be a Methodist or a Baptist or an Episcopalian in a general capacity, should not also maintain his allegiance to his particular faith, in his particular parish. The Democratic party would soon cease to exist; were the attempt uiuisu- ally made to separate national and local politics. As well talk about separating tho head from the body, wiihout injury, as to maintain the possibility of separating the local from the general organization.

As for political inderend jnce local affairs, it is a delusion aiid a snare, and inevitably results sooner or later in Ihe absolute merging of thotcwho attempt Life. Oct. There we take the hack and after a ride of one hour through a beautiful rolling country, we are landed iu Shelby ville, the county (Shelby) seat. It is beautifully situated in the central part of the county.

The population is about BOO, but has been, for an incorporated city--One peculiar feature about the "West. The old settlers arc mostly Marylanders and Viiginians. Among them arc Mr, J. M. Dines, a native of Dorchester county, and Mr.

Thos. "Whcclington, a native of Caroline, and a brother tc William "Whcelingtou, who was, up to his death a near resident of Preston. It is at present an inland town but steps, tli.it will, no doubt bul prove dfeetual, arc being taken lo lay a road from Monroe City to Kiiksville, which will lake in this place, and.of course other enterprises will soon follow.
