WAY, MARCH 1926 THE MUSKOGEE DAILY NEWS SEVEN ST JOE WESTERN LEAGUERS TO MOVE TRAINING CAMP HERE THE ST JOSEPH Western league baseball club will come to Muskogee next week, play the Athletics two games, and then finish off their training periods in this city for three weeks This information was sent to THE DAILY NEWS sports desk late last night from Shawnee, Ok where the Saints are now in training While the weather has been far from favorable at the Shawnee training camp of the St Joseph club, that reason did not have anything to do with the change in training locations Owners of the St Joe outfit have expressed their dissatisfaction over the condition of the team members While the eLn tic conditions do not seem to have affected the conditioning of the players, St Joe bosses have found enough cause for alarm in the fact that the players do not seem to have enough pep in their work- outs to constitute ginger for an Old Folks home Believing that competitive workouts, other than the Damon and Pythias kind of the yannigans and regulars, the St Joe bosses have decided that by bringing their team to Muskogee to taper off their training with Boss Winder and Manager Krueger sundry Athletics will be the correct solution to their problems According to available information given out, a daily session and mayhap a daily beating in the hands of the Athletics will be the necessary incentive the Saints need to give them a running start in their pennant marathon in the Western league this year The Saints will arrive in Muskogee next Saturday and will be quartered in one of the leading hotels in the city They wilt join with the Athletics in their daily practice sessions Twenty men will compose the personnel of the St Joe team A SENT 20 TO FASTER COMPANY WEST, BENNETT BACK TO association was one of the best minor leagues in the country last year is attested by the large number of players who graduated from the circuit and who are now making good with clubs of higher classification No less than 20 players won their spangles in last season campaign and now are in training with clubs throughout the southland Perhaps the largest list of graduates is from Fort Smith, the club that gave the Ardmore Boomers a hard-fought struggle In the first half of the season, but cracked later in the year Jimmy Hudgens, young first baseman, who showed the way to all hitters of the league with a mark of 389 for the season, is being hailed as a find by the Cincinnati Reds, the club tha completed his purchase late in the season Hudgens stands no chance to oust Wally Plpp, veteran first sacker for the National league team, but ho to certain to remain with the club throughout the season On Cardinal Mound Big Ed Clough, sterling lefthand- er, Is in the camp of the St Louis Cardinals at San Antonio and has been showing tho same winning form that made him one of the leading twlrlers of the league last year Clough may be farmed out for experience this year, but critics who have seen the youngster in action this spring declare that Is a certain big league prospect Taken I roin Twins When Bonus Mltze, manager the Twins last, year, was given the managerial winning 17 and losing one game for Ardmore last year, Let'y Brown was sold to Brooklyn and is with the club this spring Manager Zach Wheat was loud in his praise of the youngster's work in the big show last fall LiUle Chief Will Stick Wallace Varney, sterling Indian moundsman, was sold to the Chicago White Sox, and reports front the camp of the Pale Hose at Shreveport have it that Carney is the ono minor league pitcher who will stick with the club Tho Little Chief has been going great in exhibition games, pitching a onc- hit contest against Shreveport Alex Metzler, who showed fly chasers of the loop a few pointers about outfielding and base running, is with Wichita Falls in the Texas league, and Hap Briscoe, hard-clouting shortstop, has gone to Decatur in the Three-I league George Brauchle, premier second sacker of the association, is with Asheville in the South Atlantic league Muskogee sent up Ginger Carroll, strike-out king of the league, to the While Sox Jimmy Presmuth was sold to Waco and will make the club, while West, Collins ami Cash were disposed of to Little x4 of the Southern association Whether all the players will remain with the Arkansas club is problematical Red Bennett, outfielder, already may be turned back to Jluskogw by Little Hock Najo to White Sox Okmulgee sent Senor Leo Najo, great outfielder, to the Chicago White Sox Najo faces an almost Impossible task of breaking into the big league outfield of Mostil, Falk and Barrett, but he will be farmed out with a strong string a' tached Dave Beans Miner, catcher, was sold to Waco and seems to be making good Irish Corgan went to Denver and, of course, will stick Bill Moore, young Independence catcher, is declared to be lie best young prospect that the Boston Red Sox have ever had Ben Ahmen, pitcher with Springfield, has gone to the Kansas City Blues, as has Don Specks Houck Other players on earns of the league have about arrived, tn the baseball phraseology, and there ill in all probability be a number of diamond performers who will graduate from the Seabough circuit at the close of this year's campaign NO MORE when the home team is one run behind, the score stands 3 to 2 in the visitors favor, a home run is hit and the batsman fails to touch a base and the distracted sports writer jabs a pencil point in his score book and blurs the tabluation because an over-enthusiastic fan has fallen on him, will this happen No more, we say, will this come to pass, because Boss Ray Winder has handed out his final edict that this baseball season no one but active sports writers and editors will be permitted to seat themselves in the press box Winder Edict The press box is for the sports editors and no one else, Winder ruled The spoils editors must have every advantage to accurately report the games and they cannot do so with a box full of fans As wee said once before, and now reiterate, the days when a yapping yokel could slap a sports editor on the back and ask for some baseball statistics during a crucial moment of the game is passe It will not be done at Athletic park this year Selah I WHEATON, Ill Man 27 Harold Grange, familiarly known as Red, now potvsessiw
