a a a a a a a Standard-Speaker, Monday, March 24, 1997 Bridge exhibit tricks the eye WASHINGTON (AP) Weatherbeaten beams have been hammered together with rusty nails to form a decrepit 60-foot-long wooden bridge or so it seems. In fact, although the skillful detail of the work on show at the Smithsonian's Arthur M. Sackler Gallery sustains that illusion, its title, "Bridge: Illusion in Clay," reveals the truth. The ceramic work is the creation of Taiwanese artist AhLeon and it will be on show through July 6. It took him almost four years to make.

Richard Roger J. Richard, 70, of 447 W. Pine Frackville, died unexpectedly Saturday morning at his home.

Born in Gardner, he lived in Frackville for the past 25 years. He was the son of the late Jean and Irene (Cormier) Richard. Before retiring he was the dog law enforcement officer in Schuylkill County for over 20 years. A veteran of World War II, he served with the Navy in the Pacific Theater of Operation. He was a member of the Englewood Fire Frackville, and the Fraternal Order of Police.

Surviving are his wife, the former Louise Wagner; sons, and Laurence, both of Frackville; a daughter, Bonnie Morgan, Ashland; sisters, Jeanette Apel, Colombus, Ohio, and Rita Goguen, four grandchildren; two grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held Thursday at 4 p.m. in St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Frackville, with the Rev. Keith Bowie, pastor, officiating.

There will be no viewing. Burial will be in Long Island National Cemetery, Farmingdale. Arrangements are under the direction of the Nice Funeral Home of Frackville. Elizabeth Pellock Elizabeth Pellock, 75, of 16 N. Lincoln McAdoo, died suddenly Sunday at Hazleton-St.

Joseph Medical Center. Born in McAdoo, she was the daughter of the late George and Mary (Horgash) Madochick. She was a member of St. Michael's Byzantine Catholic Church, McAdoo. Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, were her husband, John; a granddaughter, Melissa; brothers, John, Jack, Anthony, George and Joseph; and a sister, Anna Wendel.

Surviving are sons, John, Oakmont Acres, Gabriel, Hazleton, and Thomas, McAdoo; daughters, Mrs. Gene (Maryann) Lucadamo, Macungie, and Mrs. Mark (Betty May) Polumbo, McAdoo; eight grandchildren; a brother, Emro, McAdoo; sisters, Vera and Mary DeBalko, both of McAdoo; nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. from the Damiano Funeral Home, Blaine and Cleveland streets, McAdoo, followed by the Office of Christian Burial at 10 in St.

Michael's B.C. Church. The Rev. Leonard Hollick will be the celebrant. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Before retiring, she was employed for 17 years as an operator for Bell Telephone and was last employed in garment factories. She was a member of St.

John's Primitive Methodist Church, Hazleton, and held perfect Sunday school attendance for 12 years. Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, was a sister, Anna Grouleff. Surviving are her husband of 65 years, Henry "Hopkin," a guest at Fritzingertown; a sister, Mrs. Frank (Evelyn) Slack, West Hazleton; nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m.

Dolan Genevieve E. Dolan of 422 W. Green Hazleton, died Friday afternoon at Hazleton General Hospital. Born in Freeland, she was the daughter of the late James V. and Sarah (Gallagher) Gallagher.

She was a member of St. Gabriel's Roman Catholic Church of Hazleton, The Golden Agers of the parish, and the Pennsylvania Nurses Association. She was a graduate of St. Ann's High School, Freeland, and Hazleton State Hospital School of Nursing, class of 1934. Before retiring she did private duty nursing in homes throughout the area and at Hazleton State Hospital and St.

Joseph's Hospital. Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, were brothers, Joseph, Edmund, James V. and John Emmitt, and sisters, Katherine Gallagher, Mary Duffy, Marcilla Hudock and Elizabeth Ruggiero. Surviving are her husband, Kenneth; sons, Robert, Cherry Hill, N.J., Kenneth, Los Angeles, and Thomas, at home; daughters, Mrs. Robert (Sarah) Fiorotta, Northampton, and Mrs.

Franklin D. Schoch Franklin D. Schoch, 56, of White Haven, died Sunday morning at his home. Born in East Side Borough, he was the son of the late William A. and Clara (Hill) Schoch.

He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. A lifelong resident of the White Haven a area, he was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, White Haven, and the White Haven Fire Co. He was also a member of the Kidder Township Fire Co. and the Tannery Rod and Gun Club.

Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, was a sister, Bertha Schoch. Surviving are his wife, the former Irene Mengle; sons, Gerald and Franklin, both of White Haven; daughters, Irene Croughn and Marie Schoch, both of White Haven; brothers, William and Melvin, both of White Haven; sisters, Lillian Swire, Shickshinny, Clara Mae Gelezinsky and Shirley Dreher, both of Freeland, and Cornelia Rose Nicholson, Mechanicsburg; and six grandchildren. Before retiring from Gulf Westron, Valley Forge, where he had been director of industrial relations, he once worked at Autolite of Hazleton as personnel manager.

Sophia Jacobson Sophia Jacobson, 87, formerly of 605 E. Centre Mahanoy City, died Sunday at Shenandoah Manor Nursing Center, where she had been a guest for the past five years. Born in Bethlehem, July 30, 1909, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Barbara (Kiss) Kovacs, and was educated in Bethlehem schools. For the past 50 years she lived in Mahanoy City. Before retiring, she was last employed at the City Shirt Factory of Mahanoy City.

She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Mahanoy City, and the Lutheran. Women's Guild of the parish. She was also a member of the Mahanoy Area Senior Citizens. Preceding her in death, in addition to parents, were husbands, John Coombe, 1960, and John Jacobson, 1976.

Surviving are a son, Edmund J. Coombe, Bradford; stepsons, John Jacobson, Pensacola, and James Jacobson, N.J.; brothers, Louis, Joseph and Albert, all of Bethlehem; a sister, Barbara Weber, New Hope, a granddaughter; a grandson; nieces and nephews.
