And the Irish remembered, with a cruel vengeance. With in his cars fullback Larry Conjar grabbed the baU from quarterback Bill Zlochand and dived over the Trojan goal line for the first of a personal parade of four Irish touchdowns and the start of a stunning 28-7 Notre Dame rout over im- beaten and fourth-r a Southern California.

was the watch-word of this game: the moment just 329 days ago when Notre Dame faced this same Southern Cal and was just 93 seconds away from a perfect season and foothill supremacy of the nation. Remember that moment when Caig Fertig of the Trojans passed to Ron Sherman for the touchdown that spanked the Irish. the staccato urgent cry swept across the field every time the Irish rolled and on the few occasions when Southern Cal mounted a threat. It was a cry for vengeance and vengeance was what the Irish achieved. Southern brilliant halfback and Heisman Trophy candidate, Mike Garrett, was a baffled football player.

He gained only seven yards in his first nine carries. And it was not until Notre Dame with Conjar, a battering junior from Harrisburg, leading the way had rolled up four touchdowns that the Irish relented enough to let the Trojans score. Notre Dame had its revenge, the revenge its backers begged for as they chanted and sang and as they massed on the field at halftime carrying such taunting banners as Cal and the Viet Cong and But the football team needed no such urging. They scored the first three times they had the ball. Meanwhile, Notre Dame went 45 yards, 47 yards and 69 yards on touchdown parades with Conjar plunging over twice from the two and once from the one.

The only time Notre Dame failed to score when it had the ball in the first half was when a penalty ruined a threatened drive and a field goal try failed. But then a guy supposed to know exactly when a record pass is about to be laid In your lap. The Huskers faced a third and eight situation from their five-yard line just over a minute to play in the first quarter and staring a 25-mile an hour wind in the face.

But Nebraska want to punt into it any more than Colorado wanted them to punt with it. So, when in doubt, you pass in this case, and not punt as the old saying goes. Fred Duda did, a 95-yard whopper to big end Freeman White, the Detroit ior hauling it in at the 30 and scampering all the the way for a record touchdown, both Big Eight and Nebraska. Until then it was a ball game, the Husl 3rs leading only 10-3. But after a the doubt was pretty much wiped out.

1 By HAL BROWN Freeman White etched his name three times in the Nebraska record book and once on the Big Eight logs as the Huskers pushed their unbeaten string to six with a 38-13 win over Colorado Saturday afternoon at Memorial Stadium. The 6-5 Husker end and quarterback Fred Duda got their names In the Big Eight record listings with 1:14 remaining In the first quarter when they teamed on a 95-yard scoring pass that put the Huskers out front, 17-3, after Larry placement kick. The scoring pa.ss. coming on a third and eight play from the NU five, erased the Big Eight mark of 94 yards by Kansas Lane Brown and Francis Starns in 1951. also against Colorado.

It also wiped out the Nebraska record of 92 yards by Bob Churchich and White a year ago at Kansas. Duda pitched to White for another TD from the Colorado 16 with 2:05 remaining in the first half for 30th point. White tied the Nebraska season record of 21 receptions and the career mark of 40 receptions. Both records were first set by Frank Simon in 1951 and during the 1949-51 seasons. White, who had tied a Nebraska single game record with five receptions in opener against Texas Christian, catch another pass the rest of the day.

but he has four games remaining to take name out of the NU books. 208 passing yards on nine completions In 21 attempts was only 26 yards shy of the NU single game passing record of 234 set by John Bordogna Iowa State in 1951. The 38-13 victory thus sets up the long-awaited contest between the Huskers and Missouri ne.xt week at Columbia in a game that has been sold out since last summer and that has been billed as the Big Eight title fray also since last summer. The long scoring play from Duda to White broke the back Saturday. The Huskers were leading by only 10-3 on the strength of a 35-vard field goal by Larry Wachholtz and a one-vard scoring plunge by Harry Wilson that was set up by a 60- yard punt return by Wachholtz.

Colorado had backed the Scarlet and Cream into the shadows of the south stadium when Dick Anderson dropped a punt on the three-yard line. Wilson was stopped for no gain and Frank Solich managed to pick up only a couple of yards, but then Duda and White caught the Buffs counting their G-0-2 record. Duda retreated to the goal line and White, who at 6-5 is hard to lose, lost himself from the Colorado defenders and slipped behind all of them. Du(ia lofted a pass that White took at the Nebraska 35 and loped 65 yards Into the Colorado end zone. Colorado came back and drove from its own 32 to the Husker 19 before being stopped.

Frank Rogers then kicked his second field goal, this one from the 26-yard line to make the score 17-6.
