During the week they are students and store clerks On Fridays they give their time freely All agree they want to sustain "Rocky" but beyond that their reasons vary Spurgeon a 19-year-old NC State University sophomore: "My mother used to do it and I'm just following in her shoes" Mumford another 19-year-old NCSU student: acting experience Amanda Currier a Meredith freshman who plays French maid Magenta and struts around in a $30 corset: "Rocky helped me overcome my shyness" This night the crew plays to a crowd of 80 Most in the audience are regulars who have seen the show 75 135 200 times "Too many to recall" says Travis Tarrant 27 Others are curious onlookers such as Maria Hicks "This is going to be a blast" says Hicks 29 a plastic bag of loaded water guns hanging from her arm Then there are the Gothics "Goths" for short People who could easily pass as the Grim Reaper at a costume party They lurk outside the theater not saying much At the stroke of midnight the Rialto lights dim Virgins are de-virginized Cast members take their positions in the spotlight On the movie screen behind the stage big pouty red lips appear out of nowhere and the story of "Rocky" starts: Brad and Janet two wholesome Americans get a flat tire one stormy night "Didn't we pass a castle on the way back" says Brad to Janet "Maybe they have a telephone" "No!" yells the audience But Brad and Janet do not hear The couple walk toward the castle home of a transvestite mad scientist in the pelting rain Audience members squirt water guns Brad and Janet see a light coming from the castle The audience the butler "It's a great stress reliever" Toward the end of the movie the castle is invaded by space aliens from Transylvania Dr Frank Furter overdoses on pleasure and the enlightened Janet and Brad are left to crawl the Earth The castle which has somehow become a spaceship takes off into the clouds "The movie has no meaning" says London "I think the movie is saying that sometimes you can go overboard just like Frank Furter" says Currier The credit rolls and the cast and Rialto crew clean up the rice toast and toilet paper from the floor Everyone piles into their cars Some headed to Mr B's Cafeteria for a late-night snack Others go home They exit the time warp Back to the routine until next Friday night when they do the Time Warp again song "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" just like Tim and purse (a flea market find) are just like the ones Sarandon wears McLean's jacket is torn at the sleeves just like biker Eddie's "My mother helped me put the fake leopard fur on the inside" says McLean a grad student at NC State Props are also elaborate Some are homemade others bought from cast money or funds collected from the audience during a performance Sometimes though props have to be
