THE LENOX TIME TABLE Volume 79 Bluegrass Musical Program Friday Two hundred sixty of the top musicians from the high schools of the Blue Grass Conference will give a program, of vocal and band music at the High School Gym, Friday night of this week, March 12, at 8 p. m. During the day the students will rehearse under the direction of Prof. Lentz, director pf bands, and Prof. Ganz, vocal instructor, from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln.

There will be approximately 130 in the chorus and 130 in the band at the program. The Lenox school is host to this fine gathering and the people of the community are urged to attend the program which is arranged ior the best in entertainment and instruction. Advanced students from Leon, Mt. Ayr, Bedford, Osceola, Lamoni, Seymour, Cbrydon and Lenox will be in, the'program. It's this week, Friday, March 12.

Roy Jenkins has been ex- uemely busy preparing for this and for the music contests at Tarkio next week, March 19 and 20.. The home band concert was well attended last week and showed careful preparation. "Bogar," Fantasy in Symphonic Style toy Clifford K. Greary was a contest piece. Teachers Give Bridal Shower Miss Juanita Ferguson was honored with a pre-nuptial shower Fefo 23 at the Lenox Hotel.

Hostesses were Mrs. Bernice Davidson and Jean Harvey. The evening was spent with games and visiting. After the bride to be opened her many useful gifts delicious refreshments were served by the hostesses. Spicer. of our group Calvary 4-H Club held their was lucky enough to draw one meeting March 1 at Sharpsburt? of the door prizes. It was announced that place in State Poetry contest was won by a club woman from the 7th district. Mrs. Adelaide Thein of Atlantic.

This is the second time in succession this County Spelling Meet March 20 The Taylor County Spelling Contest will be held in the Junior High School Assembly room Next Week's Prize Set of Dishes Some lucky lady will receive a 32-piece set of china next Wednesday on Ladies, Day in Lenox, March 17. The award will be (grade school building) in i ford at 9:30 a. Saturday, March 20. The contest words are taken from 'Eaton's True Blue Contest Speller." The rules of the contest are also taken from Dr. Eaton's Speller.

There will be competition in both oral and written spelling. If two persons win these classes they will compete for championship. The winner of the county contest will enter the district meet sponsored toy KSIB Radio station in Creston. The Taylor County Spelling Champion last year was Marlene Eberle of the Platte No. 5 school, near Lenox.

A Traveling Trophy with the Champion's i name engraved is given to the winner. made at Tyler Pharmacy at 3-30 p. m. The dishes will be Homer Laughlin China in a full color moss rose design with deep ivory border. A $10 cash certificate may be chosen in place of the dishes if desired, but the retail value of the china exceeds this amount.

The lumber yards, filling stations, almost every business house and dealer in Lenox is giving tickets each Wednesday Day in Lenox. Don't forget to visit the stores and register. Mrs Ernest Hufnagel received the large basket of groceries given this week. You are invited to shop in Lenox. Free parking, lower prices, friendly dealers, and where your dollar spent improves your own living conditions.

Try first at Lenox for all Spring needs. Calvary Go-Getters Roy Jenkins, Lenox band director, said this week that the Junior Band Festival program at Creston was worth the time and effort. Four hundred youngsters were in the band at the evening program. Juniors who went from Lenox ranged from the 5th through the 8th grade. Harry is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Sprague. Merry-Go-Round Makers Here Mrs Parker and son Paul, owners of the Parker Merry-go-Bound Manufactory, located in Leavenworth, were Sunday guests at the Fern Hale home. The Parker Amusement once had an employee who became a very distinguished man.

The present owner's father be- manufacturing merry-go- rounds at Abilene, in 1892. A youth 'by the name of Dwight Eisenhower was once employed to help sandpaper the merry- go-round horses. passed away March 4, 1954, at the hotel in Lenox. He had returned Tuesday from the Creston hospital where he had been for medical treatment for a heart condition. Funeral services were at the Bender Funeral Home Sunday afternoon at 2:30, conducted by Rev.

Wayne Sheffel with burial in Stringtown cemetery. Mr. Bush was born Jan. 7, 1888 in Adams County. He had lived in the Stringtown vicinity all his life and was a member of the Stringtown Federated Church.

He was married to Callie Recknor in 1910. She passed away Nov. 21, 1942. Pfc. Donald Gill was discharged Feb.

28 from Marine Corps at Camp Le Jeune, N. C. He returned last week. He will remain on the farm with his parents, Mr. and Mrs.

H. A. Gill. Cheerful Chums The regular meeting of the Cheerful Chums 4-H Club was held at the home of Bertlyn Grouse March 6. The meeting was called to order by Janet Smith, Vice president, with 12 members and one leader present.

Refreshments were served the hostess. Luellen Ross on TV March 12 Mrs. Clara Ross received word that her daughter, Luellen, is to be on Your Health television program from Ames, Channel 5, at 8 p. Friday, March 12. The program will feature the Rehabilitation Center at the University hospital, Iowa City.

Luellen has been at the Center for some time, being fitted for artificial appliances and learning to use them. She will be remembered here as the girl who was born without hands or feet. She has many friends in Lenox, having lived here with her mother until about 12 years ago. At Ridgeway Funeral Relatives from out of town attending the funeral of Mrs. L.

Soldiers Discharged Cpl. Richard D. Eberle of U. Army arrived home from Korea Thursday afternoon.

Cpl. Donald L. Pfander of Sharpsburg arrived home from U. S. Army Tuesday afternoon from Austria.

Colo. Fred Haynes, CS2 and Mrs. Fred Halynes and Jeannine left Wednesday for Grapevine, to visit Mrs. Haynes' parents. They have) been visiting in Lenox the past ten days.

Fred will return to San Diego where he will be aboard ship. The Cub Scouts of Lenox, their families, and their guests, their room teachers, ministers and the Cub Scout Committee, along with a representative from the Rotary (their sponsoring organization) had a birthday party Wednesday, March 3. The tables were decorated with the Liberty Bell theme in blue and gold. Den 2 made the centerpiece; Den 2 made the place mats; Den 3 made the place cards and nut cups. Mrs.

Spicer and Mrs. Walker made the artificial cake for the guest table. This has been displayed in the Time Table window. Each table had a real eatable anniversary cake made by the den mother. After the invocation came the food and singing, then the program which consisted of a 0 Movies of the Boy Scout Jamboree in California last summer.

Miller-Walton Bedding March 7 Miss Barbara Miller, daughter of Mr and Mrs Raymond Miller of Excelsior Springs, and niece of Mrs. Grant Bryant of Lenox was married to Kenneth Walton of St. Louis Sunday, March 7 at the Woods Memorial Christian Church in Excelsior Springs. Her uncle, Dr. Edmund Miller, former pastor of the Christian church in Lenox, officiated.

Young people assisting in the bridal party were from the University of Missouri where Mr and Mrs Walton are attending. Barbara's mother will be remembered as Goldie Bryant, daughter of Mr and Mrs Will Bryant, former resident of Lenox. Miss Annola Toler of Lenox was a guest at the wedding. Ladies Invited To Hear Specialist One of the important extension meetings of this year will be in Lenox at the American Legion hall Wednesday, March 17 at 1:30 p. m.

All women's extension clubs of Taylor county are invited, also the general public. Miss Opal Roberson, clothing specialist from Iowa State College will discuss "New Finishes for Fabrics." Many of the new fabrics on the market, their use and their care, will be discussed 'by Miss Roberson. School Directors Re-elected There were 53 votes cast in the Lenox school election Monday. Dr. W.

J. Kopp and Dr. M. J. Sluss were unanimously reelected to the board of education.

The meeting to organize the board will be held Monday night, March 15. Bridal Shower A bridal shower honoring Melody and Wayne Womochil was held at the Legion hall Friday evening, Feb. 26. Hostesses were Betty Reed, Nancy Rusco and Norletta Bartrem. Assisting hostesses were Nina Baker, Bernice Reed and Bea Rusco.

Randecker, 81, a farmer living 3 miles northwest of Lenox, died at 2 p. m. Tuesday, Mar. 9, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. Mr Randecker was a bachelor.

His only immediate surviving relative is his brother John who lived with him on the farm Services were this afternoon, Thursday, at Bender Funeral home, Rev. Chas. Colyn officiating. Burial in Lenox cemetery. Begin Another Mission Study The Cooperative study group on missions promoted by Mrs.

Orsan Cochran, Sec. of Missionary Education in WSCS, finished their lessons in the study on world missions "The Life and Task of the Church Around the World." Twelve pepole opened their minds to understand the situation. The following literature was used: "That the World May Know" by Ranson, "Heritage Destiny" by Kennedy; issue of "World Outlook" and "Where'er the Sun" by Moffett. The new study on National Missions will be the book ''Within These Borders" by John Scotford. The first class will be Friday, March 12 at the home of Mrs.

Kenneth Barker. Mrs. Cochran will lead. Her background as a nurse and her study in Indianola this summer will help her in Anyone who wishes pome..
