Wright, manager of the Greensboro Telephone Exchange, has announced the Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Co. 'of Baltimore City has a large expansion program under way in Greensboro. The project includes replacement of poles and the addition of cable and wire in every direction from the telephone office, which is located on Main St. Mr. Wright stated that the work is required because of the growth in the number of telephone users in Greensboro and surrounding communities, such as Henderson, Marydel, Goldsboro, Burrsville and Templeville.

As an example, he commented, there were 189 telephones in the area in 1940; 328 in 1945, compared to 887 today. As a result of the expansion and rearrangement that goes with it, a large percentage of the local Greensboro telephone numbers will be changed. Improved telephone service cannot be provided without creating new lines and making number changes to relieve crowded situations. Inconvenience to the users will be kept to a minimum by making these number changes at the time the 1956 directory is delivered. The entire construction program will be completed by the end of January.
