veterinarians stressed that a dog which shows the early symptoms should be kept warm and quiet A veterinarian should be called at once Any loud noise may cause the pet to go into convulsions Home remedies will only hasten the convulsions and make them more severe In administering an antidote at home the owner runs the risk of getting fluid into the animal's lungs Salt is not an antidote they said Given in large quantities it will cause irritation of the stomach and intestines The veterinarians said that an intravenous anesthetic must be injected to stop the convulsions and this was something which cannot of course be handled by the owner As antidotes the veterinarians use dilute solutions of permanganate of potash or tannic acid introduced by means of a stomach tube After the dog has responded sufficiently and it is safe to move it the animal should be taken to a hospital for supportive treatment they said After successful treatment the dog will have no permanent after-effects There may be a soreness of the muscles for a few days caused by the convulsions Such purported home remedies as milk egg white and lard are valueless the veterinarians also pointed out i HAST INDIES REGIME Ur Our new drciset ere eo lovely long lo weer I before Eaittr being contemplated UNDER COMMITTEE STUDY The annexed territory has been under study by a special committee Mayor Sermon said and he added that the committee probably would divide the annexed area into two new wards while enlarging some of the present four wards In Independence There are 8062 registered voters in former area and about 7000 In the new area Under the plan mentioned by the mayor the new residents would have four council members as compared with eight from the older part of the city Seimon said It was "only to give the new residents a voice in their city government at the earliest opportunity The Intermediate registration in preparation for the regular city election April 6 was under way today It was reported that Republican workers were active in the area particularly among citizens who opposed the annexation I However registration was light up to noon with only 198 names recorded TICKET COMPLETE Republicans have a full ticket for the April election in which annexed residents may vote with candidates for each of the oflices: city marshal collector assessor treasurer police judge and city attorney Sermon said the plans called for both parties to hold primary elections to select candidates for the councilmanic posts from the two new wards Also to be submitted in the May election the mayor said would be a proposal to give the council authority to grant a franchise to the Kansas City Power Light Co which serves most of the customers in the new area Observers predicted an "option to clause would be included in the proposal which would enable the Independence municipal light plant to purchase the privately-owned lines and facilities in the area It had been the consensus that a council member could not be chosen until he had lived in a ward six months and in the city one year but John White city counselor informed the mayor the law does not apply to the annexed area
