The plates with messages were among dozens of items Ann Phillips had on view in her booth at the National Arts and Antiques Festival in New York. Mrs.

Phillips, a trained historian, isn't your usual antiques dealer. She only collects things relating to the history of the nation and its movements. "There is tremendous interest in antiques relating to history and politics and social movements," she said. OZOMI Emotions Give Clues To Illness NEW YORK (UPI) Your emotions may give clues to impending serious illness -but the signals pretty much are ignored by patients as well as many doctors. Dr. Samuel Silverman, psychoanalyst and associate professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, made that point in an interview.

He believes that clusters of things cause sickness. His list of causes goes like this: Emotional, hereditary, political, cultural ethnic, physical, socio-economic. these things play a role in physical disease. I lean to this theory the multi factorial basis for physical illness. "I have noticed that very little has been said about emotional clues or warnings in connection with such signs being good predictors of illness.

from our emotions have been largely ignored by health professions and the public." No one clue will tell if you're going to come down with a heart attack, a bleeding ulcer, or crippling arthritis. But it is Dr. Silverman's theory that they -the emotional clues -should be used in an assessmnt of any physical clue. "Sometimes, it has been my experience, these emotional clues give us earlier warnings than the most sophisticated diagnostic tests. "They give us the first hint things aren't going SHARON AVARA Sharon Avara to Wed Paul L.

but we haven't been working very long and can't afford it. being that we have to pay for our wedding. (I hear they cost about a thousand dollars or more.) So we started having sex, but I was brought up strict and I feel so guilty I cry myself to sleep. We've been fighting constantly due to my shame. What shall we do? -GAIL GAIL: If the only roadblock to marriage is an expensive wedding, save yourself about $075 and make haste to a minister or J.P.

Better a small ceremony than a big guilt that could ruin your relationship. Programmed-in shame isn't easily erased, as you've discovered. It might build up a lasting aversion to GAIL: Constant fighting is a sign you're both miserable. Since neither of you could enjoy your present guilt-and-blame sex life, I'd say refrain for a while until you get the proper perspective. the battles continue, maybe you're blaming them on the wrong "cause." Are you sure you're ready for RAP: I'm 17 and just an average chick.

I dated this neat guy for two weeks. He's really special. and I haven't found many of those lately. Forgot to call Mom one night when we were at a party later than she expected, so I got grounded for the rest of the week. I didn't blame her, 'cause she was worried.

But I had already accepted a date with my new guy for the weekend. Dad ruled I could keep it -but I'd have to stay home the next TWO weekends! With a new boyfriend out there, two weekends are an eternity. He could find somebody else in that time. How can I make Dad see this is a crisis; and if I can't soften him. how do I explain to a boy I don't know that well that I'm GROUNDED AND SCARED OF BEING DROPPED AND SOBD: If your new guy is really interested, he won't forget you in 14 days.

There's always the telephone and you can see each other at school, or perhaps on early dates through the week. Level with him and let HIM work something out. -SUE DEAR GROUNDED'S DAD: "Grounding is a major tragedy to a girl just getting started with a new boyfriend. Come on, man, you won't be an easy mark if you substitute extra work for restricted weekends. A little humanity pays big dividends in child-raising.
