At its final budget hearing Tuesday, the town council unanimously approved a tax rate of $2.5702 per $1,000 of taxable value for the 2011-2012 fiscal year from $2.5888 this year. The tax rate hinged on the ability to find $231,000 to cover payments on a new $2.75 million loan for start-up costs Town finds extra cash, cuts taxes CUTLER BAY Cutler unexpectedly lowered taxes as it successfully found additional money to start working toward a new town high school. BY PERRY STEIN TURN TO Cutler Bay is one step closer to having a high school of its own. Plans are under way for the school district and town to sign an agreement that would transform Cutler Centennial Middle School into a high school by the opening of fall 2012.

For this to happen, the town would have to kick in about in startup costs, according to Mayor Ed MacDougall. It would be the first high school within the borders since its incorporation in 2005.
