Tuesday, January 20, 1981 21 Hike in airport fees challenged The Triangle Area Pilots Association Inc. and 11 Wake County pilots have filed suit to block increases in parking fees and user rates at Raleigh-Durham Airport. The suit in Wake Superior Court alleges that increases for building rentals, hangars, office space, parking, fuel pumping and aircraft tie-downs are "excessive a and discriminatory." "I simply do not think it's true," said A.C. Elkins of Durham, acting chairman of the Raleigh-Durham AirAuthority, the defendant in the suit.

"We are port trying to be fair." The suit, filed last Friday, charged that the fees were being assessed to help pay for the construction of new facilities and a runway rather than general Ex-mayor, lawmaker dies following illness WALLACE Thomas James Baker, former mayor of Wallace who served eight years in the General Assembly, died Monday after a brief illness. He was 60. A native of Duplin County, he was president of Oil a Wallace oil distributorship, and had other business interests in the area. Long active in Democratic politics, Baker served 13 years as a town commissioner and five years as mayor of Wallace before being elected to the state House in 1970. He was re-elected three times before being upset in the 1978 Democratic primary.

Gov. James B. Hunt Jr. issued a statement Monday afternoon in which he expressed sympathy to Baker's family. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m.

NCSU reveals policy change N.C. State University will alter its admissions policy for the 1981 fall semester because of an increase in student applications, Chancellor Joab L. NCSU was criticized for overenrollment in October by a member of the UNC board of governors. Jacob H. Inc. of Cary. The firm will be paid $64,429 to make aerial photographs of the county that will be used in making maps. A similar project took place in 1958. The commissioners in an unanimous decision also stated their intent to award the entire project, estimated at between $3 million and $5 million, to Landmark.

Some of the cost will be recovered in map sales. The project will take from five to eight years to complete. Only the photography phase is covered in this year's budget. In other action, the commissioners agreed to bear the cost of maintenance at four parks scheduled for construction at school sites. This man made his funeral arrangements this morning.
