a a 00 Georgia survives on late TD pass From News Dispatches JACKSONVILLE, Fla. Lindsey Scott turned a short pass from Buck Belue into a 93-yard touchdown, longest in Georgia's football history, with 1:03 to play Saturday to give the unbeaten, second-ranked Bulldogs an incredible 26-21 victory over No. 20 Florida. The stunning windup came on a thirdand-11 play after Florida, which erased a 20-10 deficit with 1 11 points in the final period, backed Georgia within the shadow of its goal posts when Mark Dickert punted out of bounds at the 7-yard line with 1:35 left. And it overshadowed a 238-yard rushing show by Herschel Walker, Georgia's fabulous freshamn, who bolted 72 yards for a touchdown on the fourth play of the game and became the Bulldogs' singleseason rushing leader with 1,334 yards, smashing the mark of 1,317 by Willie McClendon two years ago.

Georgia's Rex Robinson kicked field goals of 25 and 20 yards in the third period, plus a pair of extra points to tie the Southeastern Conference career scoring record 254 points held by Louisiana State's Charles Alexander. The last-gasp Georgia triumph the Bulldogs are 9-0 overall and 5-0 in the SEC offset a 286-yard passing display by Florida freshman Wayne Peace, who completed 20 of 37 passes in only his fourth start. Peace flipped a 9-yard touchdown pass to Cris Collinsworth midway the second period to start the Gators' comeback from a 14-3 deficit. James Jones ran 11 yards for a Florida touchdown to cap an 81-yard drive with 46 seconds gone in the final period, Peace tossed a two-point conversion to Tyrone Young and Brian Clark, who kicked a 30-yard field goal in the first period, booted one from 40 yards with 6:52 remaining to give the Gators a 21-20 lead. After Dickert punted out of bounds with 1:35 to go, Belue scrambled for a 1- yard loss and then threw an incomplete pass.

But on third down, he found Scott over the middle at the Georgia 26 and the junior speedster angled down the left sideline, outrunning a half-dozen futile Florida defenders to the end zone. Belue also accounted for Georgia's second touchdown with a 13-yard pass to Ronnie Stewart early in the second quarter. Kentucky 31 Vanderbilt. 10 LEXINGTON, Ky. Larry McCrimmon threw for 272 yards and two touchdowns in helping the Kentucky Wildcats break a -game losing skid by beating Vanderbilt 31-10 Saturday. The victory was the Wildcats' first in Southeastern Conference competition this season. They are now 3 3-6 overall.

Vanderbilt, winless in league play, fell to 1-7 on the year. A 42-yard pass from McCrimmon to Greg Wimberly set up Kentucky's first score, a 1-yard plunge by Randy Brooks with 10:26 left in the first quarter. It was the first of two scores for Brooks. Then McCrimmon connected with tight end Jim Campbell on a 4-yard scoring pass with 3:54 remaining in the first half. Vandy's only scoring chance in the first half disappeared when Mike Woodard's field goal attempt from 47 yards fell short.

Griggs made good on a 37-yarder with 11:37 remaining in the third quarter to open second-half scoring and give Kentucky a 17-0 lead. Vanderbilt quarterback Whit Taylor got the Commodores on the board with a 4-yard touchdown run off a broken play with 5:41 left in the third quarter. A Woodard field goal of 42 yards with 10:55 to go in the game completed Vanderbilt's scoring. Kentucky put the game away on a McCrimmon pass to Charlie Jackson of 12 yards with 4:31 to go. Kentucky linebacker Chuck Smith choked off Vanderbilt's final threat, when he intercepted a Taylor pass with 4:07 left in the game.

The fired-up Tigers, 5-4, took control of the game from the opening kickoff and scored on their first two possession. Moving mainly on the ground, Auburn drove to the Eagle 33-yard line on its first possession and on a third-and-15 play, Sullivan found flanker Byron Franklin running free and hit him with a touchdown pass. The Tigers came back on their next possession and marched 77 yards to a touchdown with Brooks, who finished the day with 96 yards, getting the score on a 1-yard dive. Trailing 14-0 in the second quarter, Southern drove to the Auburn 8, but on a third-and-one play, quarterback Reggie Collier was thrown for a 3-yard loss. Southern gambled on fourth down but the move backfired when Collier overthrew a receiver in the endzone.

Southern never posed another serious Crimson Tide pounds Bengals From News Dispatches TUSCALOOSA, Ala. Major Ogilvie scored on two short runs Saturday to help No. 6 Alabama rebound from last week's loss and hand Louisiana State its first Southeastern Conference defeat, 28-7. The Crimson Tide, which had its 28-game winning streak snapped last week by Mississippi State a loss that cost Alabama its No. 1 ranking, jumped into a 14-0 first -half lead before LSU could get its offense mov- Alabama, 8-1 overall and locked in a three-way tie for second place in the SEC at 4-1 behind secondranked Georgia, opened the scoring on a 35-yard touchdown burst by reserve quarterback Ken Coley with just 4:13 gone in the first quarter.

Coley, who started in place of senior quarterback Don Jacobs, went out minutes after his touchdown because of a sprained hand. But the Tide then marched 76 yards on 11 plays and Ogilvie took the ball in from 2 yards out five seconds into the second quarter. Ogilvie's other touchdown came on a 3-yard run with 13:51 left. That score was set up when LSU punter David Johnston bobbled the snap and kicked the ball only 1 yard, giving Alabama possession at its 40. LSU, 6-3, scored its only touchdown with three minutes left in the second quarter on a 1- yard run by quarterback Alan Risher to cap a 59- yard, 10-play drive.

That score was set up when the Bengals were awarded first and goal on Alabama's 1 after pass interference in the end zone. Risher breezed in for the touchdown two plays later. Alabama was sitting on a 14-7 lead before Ogilvie's second touchdown and widened its victory margin when freshman running back Joe Carter scored on a 1-yard run over the middle with 50 seconds left. Alabama plays top: ranked Notre Dame next Saturday. The Irish were held to a 3-3 tie by Georgia Tech, a team the Tide beat 26-3 in the opening game of the season.
