I it Rolling right along 'Fanatics' hope to ride skateboards to Olympics By SUSAN SPENCE MOE Staff Writer Reggie Barnes learned to ride a skateboard on a $2 board he bought from a neighbor. Within two days, he was riding on his hands. That was two years ago. Now Reggie is one of North Carolina's top skaters. Last month, he entered the U.S.

The 16-year-old Cary High School junior started skating two years ago when it was the latest craze with the younger set. The craze has cooled, but quite a few fanatics remain. About seven of them make up the Wizard Skate Team sponsored by Wizard Skate Park on Winton Road here. "Two years ago, we started riding with every.

Other team members include Gene Furr, Don Lloyd, Jeff Morris, Jed Murphy, Rudy Pearce and Tim Thomas. If the sun is out, so are the skaters. They skate after school until it gets Jed Murphy dark and put in as many as five to six hours each weekend. There are tourna- ly.

If you're one of those people, you can save time next year by getting organized this year. Throw things out.

Keeping too many documents and keeping them for too long can be just as dangerous as keeping too few for too short a period. Take income tax records, for example. Do you have drawers crammed with copies of the past 25 years' returns? Weed out the old ones. With a few exceptions, the Internal Revenue Service has up to three years in which to audit federal tax returns. You can, therefore, generally discard receipts and other tax deduction records after the three-year period.

Some papers you don't even have to keep that long; once you have compared the stubs from your weekly or monthly salary payments against your year-end W-2 form, throw them out assuming there is no discrepancy, of course. State laws on tax audits vary; check with local authorities to learn how long to keep files. To help you get organized, the U.S. Department of Agriculture has a brief pamphlet called "Keeping Household Records: What to Discard." A newly updated version is available, at no charge, from the Consumer Information Center, Department 638F, Pueblo, 81009. If you are skeptical about the need for organization, ask yourself these questions: How easy or difficult would it be for other members of your family to figure out your record system? Who, besides you, knows where to turn for necessary information on family assets and obligations? Do you have a list, with addresses and telephone numbers, of important financial contacts like bankers, tax counselors, insurance representatives, Cook Up the Savings Clipping and redeeming the coupon values from your daily newspaper can help you save.

"I kind of want to stay amateur and work toward the 1980 Olympic exhibition team," Reggie said.

The sport has come a long way from the $2 board that Reggie learned on. "It (total equipment) costs $200 if you're going to get into it really good," Moore said. A good board costs between $55 and $140. Most last about four months before they succumb to the stunts and concrete.
