Sad it not been for the redeeming features in the second act of "The Tatooed Man," it would have been positively puerile in its paucity of the things that count in music and wit and all else that goes to make up a comic opera.

There were just two members of the company aside from Daniels who showed signs of life. They were Julia Brewer and Harry Clarke, and both were liberally rewarded with many encores. Daniels always manages to have a "Giloola" sticking around who is crazy about him and this time it was Fatlma, played badly by Louise Sylvester. There is no improvement in William Dan-l'ortlis voice, notwithstanding the abundance of room, and the other voices were impossible. Compared to the many excellent things in music and comedy seen at the Salt Lake theatre this season, "The Tatooed Man" can scarcely be Classed with any of them.

Two a week at the Lyric by the Utahna Stock company. It is pretty hard work, but the players are pleasing Lyric audiences and the house is packed nightly. "The Miller's Daughter" and "A Hero in Rags" have been the bills for the week. tV (V The new Empire theatre will open its doors to the public next Wednesday evening. This pretty little house at 16G State street is one of the nicest of the smaller playhouses, and it is the purpose of the management to give the best attractions that can be secured in vaudeville, illustrated songs, and moving pictures, jt WITHERSPOON.

Herbert Witherspoon, the groat basso, will be heard at the First Congregational church next Thursday evening. The announcement of the coming of this famous singer is most welcome to the musical people of Salt Lake, and doubtless his concert, one of the best features of the U. of U. coui'se, will be a great success. The following regarding this artist appeared recently in the Chicago Inter Ocean "Herbert Witherspoon is in the highest moan ing of the name an artist.
