Dentists now practice prevention in the sense that they prevent premature loss of teeth by treating tooth and gum disease. But these discoveries are important because they come closer to solving the basic problem- prevention of disease itself. These two decay preventatives, one for children and one for adults, have been reported by a research team of dental scientists at Indiana University. The children's preventative is a new fluoride solution called stannous hexafluorozir- conate. Use of the new fluoride solution has substantially reduced incidence of tooth decay. The claim is 75.8 pet- cent. This same study showed that another group of children receiving SnF2 had a reduction of only 54.3 per cent. In some cases, use of the new solution reduced decay as much as 95.5 per cent. The adult preventative is a substance called sodium dihy- drogen phosphate which added to regular breakfast cereal has effectively reduced dental decay. In a group of adults aged 17 to 58 receiving phosphate-enriched cereals, dental decay was reduced over 20 per cent. The cereals used were sugar-coated corn flakes, sweetened puffed wheat, sugar-coated alphabet-shaped oat cereal, sweetened crisp rice and sugar-coated animal- shaped oat cereal. I shudder to think of anyone having to eat this sweetened horse food first thing every morning but if it prevents decay, it's worth it. This may be the first time that fortification of adult diet has produced a reduction of human dental decay. If this work can be improved upon, including some other means of admission, we may indeed be approaching Dental Shangri-La. (Newspaper Enterprise Assn.) The play starts with dummy's king of spades and ace- king of diamonds taking the first three tricks. A third diamond is led and trumped with the nine of clubs. If West overruffs, South will make his contract because he will wind up taking a successful heart finesse, but suppose that West just discards a heart. South will be sure that the club finesse will win. He will go to dummy with the ace of spades and lead the jack for a finesse. If West produces his queen at this point, South will be able to get back to dummy with the 10 of clubs; but suppose West is smart enough to play a low club. Won't South be sure that East holds the club queen and won't South lead the 10 of clubs and finesse again to guard against an initial club holding by East of four to the queen? If he does, West will finally produce his queen and lead back a black card. There will Late Show Sat.
