(AP) Sophomore passing sensation Charlie Dudish pulled Georgia Tech out of the fire for the secong straight week Saturday and gave the Yellow Jackets a 17-10 decision over Baylor in an intersectional football game. With 44 seconds left, the composed Dudish fired a 21-yard scoring pass to halfback Steve Harkey for the touchdown. Until the last-minute aerial barrage by Dudish, it appeared the game would end in a 10-10 tie with Baylor coming from behind on a fantastic, juggling catch by Laney Cook, who until this week had been the Bear's third-team quarterback. Cook, moved to tailback against Tech, made the amazing catch on a 69-yard scoring play with 13:33 3 remaining.

Cook speared the Si Southall pass one-handed on the Tech 35, then bounced it between hands more than 10 yards before finally bringing it under control and outdistancing the Tech secondary for the touchdown. The Baylor score came less than three minutes after the Yellow Jackets moved to a 10-3 lead as Tech defensive halfback Jeff Ford intercepted a Bruin pass on the Bear 16 and romped across for the touchdown. Before the closing fireworks, it appeared that the touted aerial battle, matching Dudish against Baylor hurlers Southall and Steve Stuart, might never materialize. In fact, all three quarterbacks had proved ineffective through the first 40 minutes. Tech jumped into an early 3-0 lead as place kicker Jack Moore booted a 28-yard field goal with 12:54 left in the first period.

The three-pointer came after Baylor's Gene Rogers fumbled and Tech's Tash Van Dora recovered on the Bears' 19. Baylor drove to the Tech two early in the third period but settled for a tying 19-yard field goal by Terry Gozby after the Yellow Jacket defense, bulwarked by Rock Perdoni, stopped the Bear drive. Dudish, who hit on six of 13 Tech, duplicated ers heroics of a week ago when against Baylor his fourth-quarthe pulled the Yellow Jackets to a 24-21 decision over Southern Methodist University. (AP) Juniors Frank Harris and Fred Willis rallied a sputtering Boston College attack in the second half and the Eagles came from behind Saturday to launch their 1969 football campaign with a 21-14 victory over stubborn Navy. Harris passed for two touchdowns in the fourth period after Willis, a work horse halfback, opened up the Navy defense with his powerful running. Navy, belted by Penn State in its opener a week ago, appeared en route to an upset as it took a 14-7 lead on Mike McNallen's five-yard touchdown pass to Harry Landau midway through the third period.

A few minutes later, the Middies marched to the Boston College 30 before surrendering the ball on downs. Then the Eagles came to life and Willis went wide to right raced 18 yards to the 48. BC moved to a first down on the Navy 35 but Jim Catone was swarmed under for an 18-yard loss back to the Boston 47. Willis picked up four yards before Harris connected on two straight passes Catone for a first down on the Navy 28. Three plays later, Harris connected with Catone on a 25-yard scoring pass play.

The Eagles marched to the deciding touchdown the next 93, time yards in eight plays. Harris they had the ball, moving passed to George Gill for 50 yards to the Navy 39 and six plays later the BC quarterback rolled his right and passed seven yards to Catone in the end zone. Willis carried 25 times and gained 168 yards on the ground. Harris hit on nine of 16 passes for 137 yards. B.C.

(AP) Quarterback' Mike Cavan threw two long scoring passes and ran over for a third touchdown Saturday to lead Georgia's football team to a 30-0 rout of Clemson. The Georgia junior scored the first touchdown on a short plunge capping an 80-yard march, then passed 63 yards to Dennis Hughes for the second. He got his Southeastern Conference team in position for a 32-yard field goal by Jim McCullough and a 16-0 halftime lead. Cavan tossed a 59-yard scoring pass to Charles Whittemore in the second half, when he also engineered a 56-yard match with Bruce Kemp plunging over from the one. Pass interceptions by David McKnight twice halted the Atlantic Coast Conference hosts in the first half.

One came on the Georgia 28, turning into a touchdown a few plays later on Capackie long Larry throws Brasher to Hughes. a mishandled 'Clemson hand-off at the Tigers', 43 that led to McCullough's field goal. Cavan passed for 18 to Hughes and 20 to Whittemore in Georgia's 80 yard crive. A 20- yard pass interference penalty kept the march alive. Clemson moved into Georgia territory only once in the first half, driving to the 31.

McKnight's interception cut off the threat. That was Clemson's only first half thrust in a contest that started out like a punting duel. Cavan moved his team 56 yards to a touchdown midway in the third quarter, Kemp plunging across. The Georgla quarterback connected twice with Hughes and once with Craig Elrod in the drive. Buck Swindler's interception near the Georgia goal of a Clemson set the stage for Cavan's 59-yard scoring toss to Whittemore.

Swindler's theft stopped Clemson in its deepest penetration of the day, at the Georgia 14. Reserve quarterback Jack Montgomery moved Georgia 52 yards to the the Clemson three just before game ended. The drive was on the ground generally and Clemson tightened to prevent being blanked by an even larger score. (AP) -A polished Toledo ground attack easily overwhelmed Marshall University, 38 to 13, in a football game here Saturday that extended the Thundering Herd's winless streak to 23 games. The visiting rockets were sparked by a 66-yard touchdown by tailback Tony Harris early in the first quarter. Marshall's sophomore quarterback Ted Shoebridge exhibited a fine air attack with a pair of touchdown passes to sophomore Dennis Blevins in the first half. But the Rockets rolled over the youthful Herd, outrushing them with end runs and hard attacks into the Marshall line. The victory doesn't help Toledo's standings in the Mid-America Conference.

Sandy Goodwin, a Martin end, caught a pass on his own forty and hauled 60 yards to the second score of the night. The No. 1 ranked Buckeyes, staging an awesome show of power in their 1969 opener, racked up their 15th straight conquest, the nation's longest winning streak. (AP) -Michigan State's grind-it-out running attack stole the glory from the great passing by Southern Methodist Chuck Hixson a 23-15 come from behind football win by the Spartans Saturday. MSU was trailing 15-10 late in the final quarter before the sputtering Spartans finally made their ground game jell. They surged 04 yards in 10 plays with Don Smith carrying the last five yards for the score and a 16-15 edge. Michigan State added another score with slightly more than three minutes remaining. Quarterback Bill Triplett, who had been off target most of the afternoon, hit a five-yard TD to Bruce Kulesza.

Lt. Gov. Pat Taylor cut the ribbon for the official opening and stated, "I'm very impressed with the great crowd and fine dragway that's been constructed. I'm equally impressed with the hundreds of race cars of every make and model from all over the Race finals will be held today.

Danny Ongais, driving Mickey Thompson's Mach took the low elapsed time (ET) in the funny car division, 7.26 seconds. In the dragster division, the Ramchargers Dodge held both the ET and speed record with a 6.79 and 214.79 mph. Ronnie Sox, of the famous Sox and Martin team, Burlington, held the ET and MPH in the popular superstock division with a and 133.90 mph. The fast cars kept the crowd standing all day. Speeds of 200 mph were common as all the top names pulled to the line to literally blast one record after another.

Tailback John Brockington punched across for three touchdowns while Kern and battering fullback Jim Otis scored two each. The outclassed Frogs, beaten by Purdue last week 42-35, never got across midfield as the stingy Buckeye defense kept TCU bottled up. The Frogs lost to Baylor 52-0 in 1910 for their previous worst setback. Ohio scored in every period and got two touchdowns in the final quarter with reserves on the field. The final TD came on a 62-yard pass from Kevin Rusnak to Rookie Tom Campana.

It was the third straight defeat for Southern Methodist, beaten earlier by Air Force 26-22 and Georgia Tech 24-21. MSU, which plays Notre Dame week, won its opener from Washington 27-11. Even in defeat, the great Hixson broke by 137 yards the SMU record for total offense of 3,592 yards, formerly held by ex-Detroit Lions star Do a Walker who was watching from the stands. On passing alone, Hixson made 244 yards with 17 completions in 30 pass attempts.
