Behind The Scenes Hellfighters' Cast, Crew Provide Added Interest By MARTHA ANN HEMPHHJL Jill Donahue, Hollywood actress, sits quietly on the sidelines and chats with her co-worker Jim Hutton about the scene being shot, the weather, the friendly people of Baytown. Donohue plays the part of Helen Meadows, the girl of the moment for Hutton who is one of John Wayne's "Hell- fighters" being filmed just oK Highway In the film industry from the time she was a child. Miss Donohue says the waiting, the bustle, the intrique and glamour are "ail in a day's work." Her father is Jack Donohue, the director for "The Lucy Show" and her mother is a Swedish movie star. She has a brother who is a film editor. Most of the footage she will be in.

in Baytown, will be shot outdoors and her sleek, close cropped hair-do is a real asset in the windy atmosphere. Monday she and Hutton stepped in and out of a helicopter for hours, waited while a special track was made so the camera could roil over the shell smoothly for close-ups and retakes. During a lull. Miss Donohue explained that her wardrobe is bv Edith Head and that she was at the site from 10 a.m. Monday until nearly 5 p.m.

Tuesday she arrived at a.m. make-up in place and in her red coat, fur trimmed, -which is her wardrobe for the day. She was bom in Sweden, but is an American citizen. After what is equivalent to American High School she studied for two vears at the Royal Academy in Stockholm- Although this is strictly a dramatic role, JDl prefers comedy. She just completed "Nobody's Perfect" with Nancy Kwan and Doug Mcdure and a television show with Robert Wagner on "It Takes A Thief." In fact," she said, "I just finished that the day before I was told this job." Soft spoken, almost shy, she explained that she grew up with the 5dea that everyone in films has a job to do and does it.

The long hours really don't matter to her because she knows when the time comes things will be for her part in the show. Monday afternoon the director Andrew McLagalen, was most interested in getting her reaction to the billowing smoke and flames at one point John Wayne hollered, waste that smoke down there. The heavy overcast sky tilled with billows of dark smoke irolling over the helicopter. As Jill gets out of the with Hutton she expresses fear and dismay at tlie sight which confronts her. There were distant shots, mid- wav shots: and close-ups where she is talking with Hutton about the The actual voice will be added later in Hollywood.

That's thi? way they do it. OTHER STARS Meanwhile Bruce who has starred with John Wayne in "twelve or thirteen movies" stands by watching the action, talking with Baytonians, crew or other actors. He likes to work with Wayne, especially on this show, because "this is a damn good movie." In a scene Monday, he and Wayne, in twin red suits with matching hard hats, pull some metal out of the fire and get ready to go to work putting it out. He just completed "Green Berets" with Wayne and reported that it 'is scheduled for release July 4. When asked what his favorite movie with Wayne is he laughed, "Hatari, without a doubt.

That Africa, it's something else." He has not worked in Texas before, but "Wherever Duke goes I'll go if he wants me to," Cabot said- Asked if any brawls are called for in this movie, he said. "Sure. We'll have a little fight with some Australians in this one." "It's a good story a good script. You'll like the movie." STUNT MEN Meanwhile the stunt men talking over a scene they just completed. They are here for the actual fire scenes and one of them, Everett Creach of Missouri and Hollywood, said he had just finished driving a cate- pillar into the fire as Cabot's double.

Creach is a freelance stunt TWO BROKEN LEGS CQULDNT STOP HER Sydney Brasfiela 1 Visits John Wayne man who prefers cars and horses because they pay more. He's been in the business since junior high days Jt-hen someone asked him lo stand in lor Roddy McDowell because his aport coat was the same color as McDowell's. "I was just a by-stander because my lather had loaned them some horses," he said. Creach was one of the men who "caught fire" Friday night when the well blew in and the derrick burned down. He wore two suits of underwear sprinkler- with talcum powder, a rabber suit covered with aluminum and coveralls.

Over all this he had wardrobe clothes to make him look like an oilwell driller. On the way back from being outfitted in all this protection he said, "If-1 make one false step, '11 be fried." As it was he got a little hot under the collar because his suit and face mask did not quite meet and some of the heat nianaged to penetrate. Under the suit the stunt man had a battle of purefied air much like that used by scuba Creach said the most dangerous part he'd ever played didn't start out to be that way. He was in a covered wagon which went over a cliff unexpectedly. One the men with him is still hospitalized and the cameraman, who is also on this Vication, sports a deep scar on nis face.

"Way West" was the title and Richard Widmark and Kirk Douglas were stars. Andy Mc- Laglen also directed. The wagon stopped on a crevice some 375 feet from the floor of the canyon. It later dropped to within 175 feet and for 45 minutes they worked at trying to be "rescued." Creach admitted to making 5500 the night in an opening scene for 'Helfighters." Yon can say I made somewhere around that much Friday night." Another stunt man came up about that time and said, "Guess what, .1 just lost $1,000 tonight. The shape of my face is wrong." When asked to explain, he said that when he started to put on the face mask it would not go down over his head: What a way to-lose money!
