Roman Gabriel must be ready to set and throw for the Rams with Willie Townes, Jethro Pugh, Bob Lilly and and George Andrie coming at him.

The Rams, 2-0, are tied for the lead in the Coastal Division and the Cowboys, 2-0, are out front in Capitol Division. The only touchdown scored on Los Angeles this year was a kickoff return by New Orleans' rookie John Gilliam in the opener. When Dallas and Los Angeles played Aug. 12 in a preseason game the Rams won 20-6. Coach Vince Lombardi has spent most of the week trying to explain Bart Satrr's Dolphins Hope Namath Has an Off-Day Again NEW YORK (AP)The Miami Dolphins are worried about Joe Namath, but don't have to be about Matt Snell, as they prepared to meet the New York Jets Sunday in a battle for the Eastern Division lead in the American Football League. The game between the unbeaten Oakland Raiders and Kansas City Chiefs, co-leaders in the Western Division, also highlights the day's program. The San Diego Chargers play the Buffalo Bills while Denver takes on Houston in the other games.

The Boston Patriots are not scheduled. "If Namath gets a hot hand, like he did against us last year, New York will be said Dolphins' Coach George Wilson, referring to the brilliant Jets' quarterback. The Jets beat Miami 30-13 in Shea Stadium last year after recording a 19-14 triumph on the Dolpins' field. This year, each team has a 1-1 mark and leads in important statistical categorics. New York, led by Namath, tops the AFL in passing a and total offense.

Miami has the circuit's best pass defense. The Dolphins' opposition has averaged only 63 yards passing in the first two games. "Denver completed just six passes and although Kansas City threw only 13 times, they completed only seven," Wilson noted. Miami dropped a 24-0 decision to Kansas City last week after an opening game victory over the Broncos New York, which beat Denver 38-24 a week ago after losing to Buffalo, will be without fullback Snell for at least six weeks. He underwent surgery Friday on his left knee.

He suffered a torn cartilage 1 in the game against the Bills. The game between the Chiefs and Raiders, each 2-0, shapes up as a defensive struggle. Kansas City comes off its shutout victory over Miami while Oakland rested last week after walloping Denver 51-0 and Boston 35-7. San Diego, the circuit's only other unbeaten team at 2-0, now has healthy Lance Alworth for the opposition to contend with. Alworth climbed right back among the leaders in receiving when he caught 10 passes for 121 yards and one touchdown in a 13-3 triumph over Houston last week.

Tailbacks Ron Shotts and Steve Owens ate huge chunks from the Maryland line as quarterback Bobby Warmack skillfully maneuvered his Sooners on a touchdown parade through the first three quarters.

It was the Sooners' second straight shutout and Maryland's first game. Oklahoma scored by air, by ground and even recovered a fumble in the end zone as its offense operated smoothly, USing a handful of basic plays. Shotts had the big touchdown play, going 56 yards for the Sooners' fourth score. Owens and wingback Eddie Hinton each had five yard scoring runs, Warmack threw 18 yards to Steve Zabel for another, and split end Roe Killingsworth recovered a Shotts fumble in the end zone for another. Mike Vachon, who missed two field goals, kicked all the extra points.

Oklahoma tied the first downs record of 28 set in 1942 and 1956. Both Chicago, 0-2, and Minnesota, 0-2, have been having their problems on the attack.

The Vikings' home game may mark Joe Kapp's first start at quarterback. Chicago found encouragement in Gale Sayers' running against Green Bay and in alert defense that picked off five interceptions on Bart Starr. Clemson roared back with two third period touchdowns by Buddy Gore and Liberatore to tie the count 17-17. Georgia promptly opened the 4th period by grinding out 56 yards in eleven plays, all on the ground. Morris, a tailback who can do the 100-yard dash in 9.5 seconds, took a pitchout from Moore and raced into the lend zone behind precision blocking for the tiebreaker.

Clemson, the pre season Atlantic Coast conference favorite, actually outgained the defending Southeastern Conference cochampions. The Tigers gained 275 yards and 15 first downs while Georgia picked up 248 yards and only 8 first downs. But three pass interceptions and a fumble nullified much of the Clemson progress. Both of Georgia's first half touchdowns were set up by pass interceptions. Linebacker Happy Dicks intercepted a Jimmy Addison's pass on the Clemson 26 late in the first period.

Moore passed 18 yards Dennis Hughes put the ball on the Clemson two, then sneaked later for a TD. across from the one two plays, Safety man Jake Scott picked off another Addison pass in Georgia territory in the last 2 minutes of the first half and returned it to the 50. Moore hit Hughes with a 33 yard pass to the Clemson one. A penalty pushed the Bulldogs back to the Tiger 6, but Moore came back with a keeper around right end on the next play, for a Georgia touchdown. The Tigers kept a sellout crowd of 46,000 standing in the third period when they drove 49 yards with Gore going over from the one for a score.

Liberatore took a Georgia punt a few minutes later and raced 52 yards untouched for another Clemson touchdown. Steedley Chandler's conversion tied it for Clemson 17-17. Clemson started what appeared to be another strong drive a few moments later, but a holding penalty turned a long Gore run into a big Clemson loss. Instead of having the ball in Georgia territory on a first down, the Tigers found themselves deep in their own area and had to punt. Georgia began its decisive touchdown drive at that point.
