"Now, it's definite we'll go on Channel 28.

We've ordered our antenna, have almost completed building plans and should begin the erection of our tower near Garner in about a month." The tower will be located at Auburn, near the existing towers of the two VHF stations directly serving the Raleigh region, WRAL and WTVD. Jacobs said the station will insure "a wider variety of network programing a new lineup of local shows and the appearance of a wider range of syndicated and film productions." (He noted that while syndicated material had once been considered a lesser filler for station schedules, it is now coming to mean a new phase of television entertainment. (The surge of stations across the country- in the UHF range has necessitated more material being produced for the TV grind by companies independent of the three networks.) Although Jacobs can not lock his schedule of offerings until the premiere date is set, he does say that NBC has assured the new operation a "substantial amount" of shows. There is little emphasis on NBC here at this time. Had the station been available this season, it might have enabled local viewers to see the Golden Globe Foreign Press awards the night they were announced; the season's one fresh variety entry, "The Dean Martin and, tonight, a rare appearance by Simone Signoret on Presents." As it is, audiences saw the awards a week late on the Williams Show" last night, and most likely will never see the Martin hours or the Signoret appearance.

The increase of UHF stations in this country followed the 1964 passing of the allchannel law, requiring American television manufacturers to equip all sets for both UHF and VHF. This law made the former a more feasible operation and increased the television band from the 13 channels to a possible 82. Naturally, there are still many TV owners in the Raleigh region without sets that can bring in UHF. This means, in the beginning, a smaller audience continuing network scramble for the stations with the most penetration. The key, though, is greater variety on Raleigh television screens.

Almost any viewer should find this a healthy change. It's possible the stations will too. THE SOUND OF MUSIC-Rogers and Hammerstein's sentimental musical starring the fairest of screen singers, Julie Andrews. With Christopher Plummer, Eleanor Parker. (AMBASSADOR) THE GHOST AND MR.

Stampede to Camp Promises Gold Mine HOLLYWOOD (AP) Our tale begins last October, when adventurous Leonard Brown and his intrepid sidekick, Malcolm Willits, co-owners of the Collectors Book Store in Hollywood, heard of a priceless treasure languishing in a trunk in nearby Burbank. What this treasure was was leaping lepidoptera! comic books! THWOCK! As with a stone between the eyes, Brown and Willits were struck with visions benevolent forture. Comic books are: a gold mine in the rage for pop art. Painters haul down healthy emoluments for merely reproducing the simple line drawings of a simpler day. Portraits of soup cans are putting Botticelli out of business.

People of true chic revere this trend. They call it high camp and pop, and pay potsful of money for it. "Gee, Malcolm," said Leonard excitedly, "we're got to get that stuff!" Little did they now what lay ahead. First they learned that the trunk's owner had moved to Harrisburg, address unknown. "All we had was his name," said Brown, "so we used a phone book and wrote everyone by that name in Harrisburg.
