For the first time in a Raleigh movie house, all auditorium walls are covered with drapes, shades of blue, green and gold. The drapes serve three purposes.

They do the functional job of providing a wall finish, they're decorative and they provide effective sound control. From lobby to projection booth, the Cardinal Theater reflects the work of E. H. (Um) Geissler, Atlanta architect-engineer with WilKin, who designed the theater in collaboration with Six Associates, Asheville architectural firm. Glass and Stone The cantilevered marquee juts out from the glass and stone front, providing protection for patrons buying tickets.

Throughout the building, provision has been made for comfort and convenience at times of peak attendance. The spacious obx office, for example, has room for two cashiers. And the concession stand is supplemented by two coin-operated soft drink machines to accomodate up to 200 customers at a time. Blue and green are the dominant colors in interior decoration. The lobby is carpeted in blue and green tweed and there are unholstered jade blue and white benches for relaxing.

Displays for coming attractions are framed in rosewood formica and set off by planters. The careful attention to detail is carried into men's and women's lounges. In the women's lounge, a gold couch faces a row of well-lit vanity tables. The a auditorium is equipped with "rocking chair" seats Ultra-Vision At Cardinal The Cardinal of North Hills says it is the third theater in the world to install Ultra-Vision, considered the ultimate in film projection. The process was developed by Wil-Kin, an engineering division of the Wilby-Kincy chain, owners of the Cardinal.

Ultra Vision is a curved, wall-to-wall screen picture projection system engineered match basic components the screen, the arc lamp, the lens and the projector to each other and to the theater. The system promises greater clarity of screen image, providing movie goers feeling of personal involvement in the film. It is in true focus, free of distortion and is evenly lighted for authentic color reproduction and realism. The process premiered last month at the chain's Terrace Theater in Roanoke, Va. The second installation was in Asheville this past June 13th at the second new Terrace.
