of Dies of Burns GRIFTON (UPI). A 61-yearold Negro, described as a semiinvalid, died Wednesday of burns received in a fire at his home Tuesday. The victim of the fire was Clinton Garrett of Rt. 1, Grifton. Officers said a passersby spotted the house on fire, and rushed in and dragged Garrett from the blazing building.

The Negro's clothing had been burned off and he was found on the floor beside a heater. Garett died in a hospital at Greenville. DANIEL C. TURNER. Dea- ROCKY MOUNT Daniel in a Carl Turner, 63, died Wednesday.

KINSTON Robert C. (Bob) Poovey, 50, died of a heart attack Tuesday. He was the owner of the 1 Kinston Wheel Aligning Service, was active in civic and community affairs, president of the Kinston Rotary club, active in the Touchdown Club, the Exec. utives Club, the Kinston Industrial Development Corporation, and a member of the First Baptist Church, was an All-Confer-2 ence fullback in 1934 and 1935 at Lenoir Rhyne College, was a son, and a Shriner. Funeral services will be held from the First Baptist Church at 2 p.m.

Thursday by the Rev. W. C. Reed and the Rev. Howard Dawkins.

MAMIE F. THAXTON. ROXBORO Mrs. Mamie Featherston Thaxton, 56, a native of Caswell county and resident Rt. 1, Prospect Hill, died Tuesday at the home of her daughter, Mrs.

BURLINGTON William H. Saul, 38, died Sunday. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Davis Street Methodist Church. Burial was in Pine Hill Cemetery. He was a member of the Young Men's Bible class and was active on the church's baseball team.

He was born in Alamance County, the son of William Mrs. Monnie Lee Saul. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Katie Sue Terry Saul of the home; one daughter, Terry Lee Saul of the home; his parents of Burlington and one brother, Curtis Saul of Burlington. MRS.

Coal Stove Fire Kills Fayetteville Painter FAYETTEVILLE A old painter burned to death in the Dowd housing area off Cedar Rd.

The Vander volunteer fire department, Cumberland county rescue squad and Sheriff's deputies found the body of Henry Thomas Maples on the floor near a window, indicating, according to the authorities, had fallen from his bed and attempted crawling to safety. Mrs. Maples awoke earlier to find the room filled with smoke. She stumbled to the front door and staggered outside to safety.

She was recently released from' a doctors care, and was admitted to the Cape Fear Valley hospital for treatment from shock. Homer Leatherwood, a neighbor of 706 Englewood and his wife reported they heard dogs barking around their house at about 10:30 p.m. He said he saw a small light in the home but did not realize it was occupied.
