Deaths and Funerals FRANK A. LINZEY. Frank A. Linzey, 86, of 2622 Wells Avenue, died at Rex Hospital Saturday morning after an illness of four months. Mr.

Linzey, a retired landscape gardener, was a native of the Isle of Guernsey. He came to the United States 52 years ago and formerly lived in East Bangor, Pa. He moved to Raleigh 13 years ago. Surviving are two sons, Ernest Linzey of Raleigh and Stanley C. Linzey of Stanton, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Misses Sara Alice Linzey and Mary Linzey, both of Macclesfield, England.

Funeral services will be held in Grace Lutheran Church, East Bango, Tuesday at 3 p.m. and burial will be in that town. MRS. GUSSIE WATKINS. Funeral services for Mrs.

Gussie Craynor Watkins will be conducted Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock from Lincoln Park Church. The Rev. Eli Ratcliff, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Mount Hope. She is survived by her husband, Charlie Watkins of the home; four daughters, Mrs.

Annie Louise Stewart, Mrs. Mamie Montague, Mrs. Rosa Burt, Mrs. Josephine Kittrell; three sons, Nollie Watkins, Hollie Watkins and Charlie Watkins Jr. all of Raleigh: twenty-six grandchildren; her mother, Mrs.

Josephine Nichols, Wilkesboro; three sisters, Mrs. Beatrice Craft, Suffork, Mrs. Viola Rankins, Winston-Salem, Mrs. Ila Guess, Texas; and one brother, James Craynor, Reidsville. MRS.

BELLE F. SORRELL. Funeral services for Mrs. Belle Fletcher Sorrell, 70, of 2726 Van Dyke Avenue here, will be held this afternoon at 4 o'clock at the Hall-Wynne Funeral Home Chapel in Durham. Interment will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park there.

The Rev. Jack Wilder and the Rev. Ted Stone will officiate. Surviving Mrs. Sorrell are a daughter and a son; eight stepdaughters, one stepson, three brothers, three sisters and several grandchildren.

MRS. PRISCILLA J. BAILEY. Funeral services for Mrs. Priscilla Jones Bailey, wife of Edward Bailey and a former teacher in the public schools of this State, will be held today at 4 p.m.

at Lincolnville Methodist Church, Asbury. Burial will be in the family cemetery. Mrs. Bailey, a native of Wake County, had lived in Chicago, for the past 11 years. MRS.

JOHNNIE MAE WATSON. Mrs. Johnny Mae Watson, 48, of 419 S. Dawson Street, died at St. Agnes Hospital Friday night.

She is survived by five sisters, three brothers and her father. Funeral services will be held Thursday, and the time will be annuonced. MRS. ROBERTA SENTER. KIPLING-Mrs.

Roberta Lee Senter, 74, wife of the late Junius Walter Senter, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. B. F. Kendall early Saturday. She was the daughter of the late Lindsy S.

and Rebecca Holt Mann, Funeral services will be held from the Kipling Methodist Church, of which she was a member, Sunday at 3 p.m. The Rev. I. J. Strawbridge, pastor, and the Rev.

E. C. Maness, former pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in the Olive Branch Cemetery. Surviving in addition to Mrs.

Kendall are two other daughters, Mrs. W. R. Harrington of Cary and Mrs. Earl Ballad of Route 2, Fuquay; one son, Judd Lee Senter of Route 2, Fuquay; six sisters, Mrs.

WILLIAMSTON William W. Griffin, retired farmer of Timberman, died at his home Saturday morning. He was son of the late William J. and Sarah Jane Coltrain Griffin. He was married in 1902 to Mary Emily Lilley, who died in 1929.

He served on the Old Community School and Road Committees. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Michael Doolin of Kings Park, Long Island, N. six sons, Clyde and Marshall Griffin of Suffolk, Henry, Wendell, Vernon, and Benjamin Griffin, all of Williamston: one sister, Mrs. George E.

Roberson of Williamston and 12 grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at the home of his son, Wendell Griffin Sunday at 3:30 p.m. by the Rev. P. E.

Cayton, pastor of the Fairview Christian Church. Interment will be in the cemetery in Williams Township. LUTHER L. LANGSTON. SMITHFIELD Luther Levi Langston, 51, formerly of Princeton, died in a Chicago hospital Wednesday.

He was a son of the late Ed and Martha Langston of Johnston County. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at Rainse Cross Roads Free Will Baptist Church, by the W. H. Lancaster and the Rev.

C. M. Coats. Burial will follow in the Raines Cemetery. Surviving are one son, Charles Langston of Princeton; three daughters, Mrs.

George McKenzie England, Mrs. Victor Klsitz of Jacksonville and Miss Ann Langston of Goldsboro; three brothers, Romey Langston of Smithfield, Bythan Langston Newport News, and Eddie Langston of Fayetteville; five sisters, Mrs. Elma Leland Toler and Mrs. 'Sadie Strickland of Goldsboro, Miss Annie Bell Langston of Long Beach, and Mrs. Ernest Gallougos of Fairfax, Va.

JOHNNY STRICKLAND. MAXTON Johnny Strickland, 70, died Friday at his home near here. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Shady Grove Baptist Church of which he was a deacon for 38 years. Surviving are his wife: four sons, Luther of Fayetteville, Bracey and Oliver of McColl, S.

and Willie of Fort Leonard Wood, a step son, Robert Williams Lillington; three daughters, Miss Mary Strickland, Mrs. Charles Seagraves and Mrs. Floyd Jones, all of McColl, S. a brother, Trussie Lowery of Laurinburg; five sisters, Mrs. S.

Willie Locklear of McColl, S. C. JOEL TURNER. ROCKY MOUNT- -Joel Turner, 85, died at his home on Route 2, Saturday. He was a son of the late Henry Turner and Amanda Daughtridge Turner.

He was married twice, first to Anna Armstrong, who died in 1902. To this union was born two sons, G. R. and J. F.

Turner, who now live in Rocky Mount. He married Fannie Thorne in 1909. To this union was born three sons, H. F. and T.

D. Turner, all now of Rocky Mount. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 16 greatgrandchildren. The funeral services will be conducted at 3:30 p.m., Sunday by the Rev. M.

A. Pegrom, pastor of the West Edgecombe Baptist Church and the Rev. Johnnie Flood, pastor of the Gospel Baptist Church in Sharpsburg. Burial will follow in the Pineview Cemetery. E.

G. RAYNOR. CHINQUAPIN E. G. Raynor, 69, died in Duplin Memorial Hospital in Kenansville Friday.

Graveside services will be conducted Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at Raynor Cemetery near Lyman by the Rev. Ramson Kennedy of Beulaville. He is survived by his wife, Ruthie Raynor of the home; 13 children, Willie, Lee and Wilbert, of Beulaville, Mrs. Rosa Mae Lanier, Mrs.

Edwards, 66, who recently. organized the Layden Memorial Methodist Church in Hertford Village, died yesterday morning in Hazelhurst, following a heart attack. He and his wife were visiting friends there during his vacation when he was stricken. Mr. Edwards, son of the late Dr.

and Mrs. G. C. Edwards of Hookerton, had served the N. C.

Methodist Conference for 45 years, and once had pastorates in churches in Plymouth, Durham, Ahoskie, Garner and Bailey. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Annie Parker Edwards; one daughter, Mrs. Don C. Gore Rockingham; two brothers, Alonzo C.

Edwards of Hookerton and Herman of Washington, D. Bradera three of sisters, South Mrs. Steven Bend, Mrs. Henry Tyson of Farmville, and Mrs. J.

G. Gullander of El Paso, and two grandchildren. His body is being brought to M. low in Riley, pastor. Burial will Maplewood Cemetery.

MRS. REBECCA WHEELER. WATHA-Mrs. Rebecca Wheeler died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. T.

W. Rooks Friday night. She was a member of the Watha Free Will Baptist Church. She was the widow of J. T.

Wheeler of Watha. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. (EST) at Watha Free Will Baptist Church by the Rev. Sylvester Carter of Garland, pastor, assisted by the Rev. Harry Moore of Currie, and the Rev.

Grill, pastor of the Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Watha Methodist Cemetery. She is survived by three children, Mrs. T. W.

Rooks and J. F. Wheeler of Watha and the Rev. A. C.

Brown, 85, of West Academy Street died at her home Saturday afternoon. The widow of Jobn S. Brown, she was born in Harnett County, the daughter of the late Jesse and Caroline Churchill Weathers. She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. H.

Perry Truelove and Mrs. Carra Smith both of Fuquay, Mrs. W. N. Hobbs of Greensboro and Mrs.

Sam Crowson of High Point; two sons, T. Hugh and Bennie Brown both of Durham; 29 grandchildren and 23 greatgrandchildren. WILLIAM R. BAILEY. ROANOKE RAPIDS Funeral services for William Roland Bailey, 23, who was killed Saturday in an auto accident, will be held at 4 p.m.

Sunday in Bethlehem Church, The Rev. Marshall Whitehurst will officiate. Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery. Bailey is survived by his wife, the former Nettie Marie Wy att; two sons, Steven Earl and Dennis Roland; his parents, Mr. and Mrs.

Sanderford, 66, retired Creedmoor insurance man. died Saturday night in a Henderson hospital afta lingering illness. He was a son of the late Dr. J. F.

and Mary Freeman Sanderford of Creedmoor. Surviving are his wife, the former Zida Fleming of Creedmoor; three sons, H. R. Sanderford of Whiteville, John Fenner Sanderford of Creedmoor and James L. Sanderford of Huntington, W.

a brother, J. Fenner Sanderford of Raleigh; and two sisters, Mrs. Burma Skinner and Mrs. Ruth Fortune, also of Raleigh. Funeral arrangements will be announced.

MISS ALICE FLOYD. LUMBERTON Miss Alice Floyd, 69, died Robeson Memorial Hospital Friday. The funeral will be conducted in Biggs Funeral Chapel at 3 p.m., Sunday by the Rev. Grady L. Kinley, pastor of Bethesda Methodist Church.

Grant Atkinson of Lumberton. WILLIAM F. CAMPBELL. ROCKINGHAM William Franklin Campbell, 81, of Route 1, died at his home Friday. Funeral services will be held at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Sunday at 4 p.m.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery. He was the son of the late Andrew A. and Jane Wilkes Campbell. Funeral Held For Lecturer CHAPEL HILL, July 20 (UP) -Funeral services for Victor Valentine Sweeney, a visiting lecturer here from the University of Florida in Gainesville, were held today at the Chapel of the Cross. Burial will be Tuesday in Arlington National Cemetery.

Sweeney, 59, died Friday in Chapel Hill hospital after a heart attack. He was head of the department of business organization and operation at the University of Florida and was visiting instructor this summer at a school for Mutual insurance agents at the University of North Carolina. KINSTON Tolar James Melvin 43, died at his home on Route 6, Thursday. He was a native of Cumberland County and the son of Henry and Alice Harris Melvin. He married the former Alice Thornton of Sampson County. Surviving with his wife and parents are three sons, T. J.

of the U. S. Army stationed in Germany, Walter B. and Jerry of the home; two sisters, Mrs. Ervin Maylor of Fort Hood, Texas, and Diana of the home; three brothers, Ottis of Kinston, Route 2, Marshall of U.

S. Air Force stationed at Travis AFB, and Morgis stationed at Donaldson AFB, S. three sisters, Mrs. Ben Clay of Swannanoa, Mrs. Warren Barefoot of Kinston, Route 6 and Mrs.

Iris B. Raynor of Bunn Level Route 1. Funeral services will be held from the Calvery Free Will Baptist Church between Clinton and Dunn at 4 p.m. Monday. Burial 1 will follow in the church cemetery.

JOHN R. STARLING. -John Rob Starling, 75, died in the Cape Fear Valley Hospital Friday afternoon. He was a native of Sampson County, but had spent most of his life in the Cedar Creek section of Cumberland County. He was the son of the late Stretie and Sally Matthis Starling.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 3 p.m. from Macdonis Baptist Church, of which he was a member, by the Rev. Fuller Thomas and the Rev. Scott Turner. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Bettie Parker Starling of Fayetteville, Route six sons, George W. of Angier, J. D. and Preston both of Fayetteville, Julian of nie Doon, Murder of Fort Brade, and Earl of Fayetteville; and ten grandchildren.

C. RICH PEARSON. CLINTON-C. Rich Pearson, 75, died suddenly at his home Saturday. Pearson was the son of the late J.

M. and Etta Pugh Pearson of Sampson County. He was a member of the First Methodist Church and had served on the Board of Stewards for many years. He was a member of the Hiram Lodge, a 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner. Funeral services will be held from the First Methodist Church Sunday at 4 p.m.

with the Rev. D. E. Earnhardt, the Rev. Claude Boggs and the Rev.

C. E. Vause officiating. Interment will be in the Clinton Cemetery. He will be buried with rites.

He is survived by one son, Fletcher Pearson of Clinton; three sisters, Mrs. W. L. Johnson, Mrs. L.

T. Johnson and Mrs. George R. Kennedy of Harrells, two brothers, J. W.

ROXBORO-David Herbert Gilliland, 65, died Saturday in Person County Memorial Hospital. He was a retired farmer member of the Roxboro Baptist Church. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Maxie Perkins of Roxboro and Mrs. J.

D. Knowlan of Schenectady, N. one son, Aubrey Gilliland of Richmond, four sisters, Mrs. Luther Oakley of Route 3, Roxboro, Mrs. Maggie Estes of South Boston, Mrs.

Pearle Paron and Mrs. H. McLaughon both of Richmond, and six grandchildren. Funeral services will held at 3 p.m. Monday at the Longhurst Baptist Church.

The Rev. R. L. Cumbee will officiate. Burial will follow in Burchwood Cemetery.

MRS. J. A. FUTRELL. RICH SQUARE-Mrs.

J. A. Futrell, 86, the former Emma J. Boone, daughter of the late John W. and Emma Barrett Boone, died Friday in Ovici Hospital in Suffolk, Va.

Funeral services will be held at 4:30 p.m. Sunday from the Rehmboth Methodist Church. The pastor, the Rev. D. D.

Tryan ham, assisted by the Rev. R. W. Prichard, pastor of the Rich Square Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will follow in the family cemetery.

She is survived by three sons, Herman, Eugene and Claude Futrell; four daughters, Mrs. C. D. Barrett, Mrs. Pauline Reardon, Mrs.

P. E. Johnson and Miss Janet Futrell; one sister, Mrs. R. W.

Outland; 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchidiren. MRS. ADDIE HART. WAKEFIELD, Addie Bell Hart, 83, died in a Petersburg hospital Saturday. She was a native Surry County and a member of the Dendron Baptist Church.

Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Alee Copeland of Ahoskie, N. one son, Clyde C. Hart of Petersburg; one sister, Mrs. Fannie of Virginia Beach; two brothers, D.

S. Derring of Dendron and W. V. Derring of Williamsburg; six grandchildren and eight grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Monday at 3 p.m.

at the Purviance funeral chapel in Wakefield. Burial will follow in the Wakefield Cemetery. CARL L. ROSS. WILSON-Carl Lee Ross, 62, died Saturday morning in a local hospital.

He was the son of the late Samuel Ross and Jennie Staton Ross of Martin County. He was an elder in the First Christian Church for several years. He was a member of the American Legion, a member of the Modern Woodmen of America and was employed by the county garage of Wilson. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Gertrude Riley Ross of Wilson; and one sister, Mrs.
