Hudson, born Roy Fitzgerald in Winnetka, 32 years ago, made his first appearance the Motion Picture Herald's annual list of the 10 top box office stars. So did pop singers Pat Boone and Elvis Presley, who captured the No. 3 and 4 spots respectively. This would inciate what film observers have long suspected: that the bulk of movie-going public today consists of teen-agers. Another, less explainable feature of the 1957 poll: For the first time in 26 years, not a single actress made the list.

Last year, two beauteous blondes, Marilyn Monroe and Kim Novak, placed No. 8 and 9. Old faithful John Wayne broke up the youngsters oy coming in second in the poll, which he headed in 1950, 1951 and 1954. Jerry Lewis apparently has proved that he can make a go of it as a single.
