We have purchased a power driven ditching machine for excavating ditches, as well as a power driven tamping machine in order that ditches may -be properly filled.

These should enable us to facilitate our work and give prompt service to our customers. Please lay out the street main work we will- have to do -this Spring and Summer so that the" gas mains that are. to be laid ahead of paving, as well as the mains that will be extended td new consumers, will be installed without any delay to. paving contractors and in order that consumers may have service when needed. We always have a rush of orders for service connections to houses during May and June which maXes.it impossible for us -'to promise connect-ion inside of a week or ten days fr6m date of receipt of order.

This fact should be fully explained to all' -consumers requesting service connections and an attempt made to get consumers to place orders in sufficient time so that the -work may be done in a systematic manner, giving the consumer the best possible service and so that our work may be arranged to be done most efficiently. All service connections in any one particular part of the City should be completed at the same time inasmuch as quite a large percentage of the cost of a service is made up of transporting men and equipment from one Job to another. A great deal of time is lost and expense incurred if, due to a lack of foresight, it is necessary to Jump from the east end of the City to the west end of the City in order to accommodate consumers and' get work completed when promised. I am advising all departments of the Company or the conditions mentioned above So that there will be no conflict within our organization. The reputation we have enjoyed in the past of giving prcmpt service and of completing wort; in a workmanlike manner, must be maintained.

Kindly give this whole matter your personal attention.
