This reporter is leaving today for New York to check up on the N. B. plans for the new season. CHORT TAKES The recently replaced star of a very popu-lar series is reported to have lost out because of too many bouts with John Barleycorn. Empire, as it now stands, will be gone next season, but its principal star, Richard Egan, will fill half of the full-hour period in a series called Redigo.

Thats the name of Egans character in Empire. Harry Belafonte shrugged off Bobby Darin's bad imitation of Bela-fonte on a recent Dinah Shore show, but the act caused a lot of raised eyebrows elsewhere in showbusiness. Mr. Ed, TVs talking horse, and Big Red, Walt Disneys canine film star, won Patsy awards as the top animal performers of 1962. Bullwinkle was pretty upset.

Confusion seems certain in connection with the cast of next season's A. B. C. series called Amos Burke. Gene Barry stars in the title role and two of the other cast regulars are Garry Conway and Barry Kelley.

Vincent Edwards has joined the many viewers who are protesting the moving next season of Bep Casey opposite the Beverly Hillbillies, but A. B. C. is said to be adamant. A performance of the famed Royal Ballet, recently filmed in will be presented as a full-hour special on C.

(9) Stoney agrees to officiate at Caldwell 'colleges annual student rodeo for an old friend (Donald Woods) and his 18-year-old daughter (June Harding), but is dismayed at her infatuation for him.
