Closing out the local concert season on the Wyandotte high school stage, the energetic singer won ever-increasing applause. He began by requesting that the auditorium lights he left on. "I just want to he able to see my friends." he said. Gates was licensed as an embalmer in 1897. and is believed to have a license longer than any other woman in Kansas or Missouri. Her husband, H. W. Gates, died in 1930.

physician escaped injury Jast night when his motor car went off highway, skidded about 200 feet came on its top beside U. S. highway No. 73 about a mile north of the Victory junction in Wyandotte County. Dr.

Peter S. Combs. the driver. was alone. He told Charles Brazelton and John Purtee, county patrolmen, that he was northbound when another vehicle crowded him off the highway onto the east shoulder.

He lost control turning back onto the highway. His car then went off the west side of the road and turned over. Dr. Combs was thrown clear of the machine but was apparently uninjured. He refused medical treatment.

Owner Reports Theft of Machine Mored 125 Feet by Thieves, A motor car which had run out of gasoline at Eleventh and Central avenue reported stolen to Kansas City, police last night by the owner, Leon R. Rogers, 1244 Washington street. The car was found about four hours later in front 1109 Central, about 125 feet away, with several sories missing.

Police said Rogers parked the vehicle Monday when the engine sputtered and died. He returned last night to fill the tank and found the car gone. Thieves evidently pushed the sedan about 125 feet before stripping it. A PHYSICIAN'S RAGS TAKEN. Woman Finds Supplies of Dr.

Walker. 2019 Olathe boulevard. He was notified. discovered the back door of his motor car had been pried open while the vehicle was parked overnight in front of the home. Police said last night that Dr.

Walker did not report anything missing from the hags. TEACHERS TENURE BIL.I. IN. Only Kansas City District Would Be Affected. From The Star's Jefferson City Jefferson City.

Feb. teachers tenure bill for the Kansas City school district was introduced today by Senators Edgar J. Keating of Kansas City and Flovd R. Gibson of Inde. pendence.

The measure is simitouthe, proposal that did not lar get a Senate committee in 1948. Under the bill. teachers would he employed under a contract of indefinite duration that could he terminated only under certain conditions. Is Injured Near Lenexa. George Morrison. 31. Hiattville. suffered dangerous injuries when the motor car he was driving left U.

S. highway No. 30 near Lenexa and struck a culvert last night. Morrison was admitted to the University of Kansas Medical Center. He suffered chest injuries and abrasions on his arms and legs.

KMBC executives include Karl Koerper, president and managing director, and George J. Higgins. vice dent in charge of sales. Higgins recently was appointed to the post after having been manager of WISH, Indianapolis. The present KMBC transmitter is at Fiftieth street and Belinder road.
