Wednesday July 5 2006 1 3B SAY ANYTHING a mother changed me I am more feminine more confident as a woman It is all very natural an Grammy-winning Canadian singer Nelly urlado who plans to take her 2 year-okl daughter Nevis on tour to promote her new hit album Loose OUR SPIN ON ENTERTAINMENT NEWS REVIEWS TOMORROW: What to know before you go to the World Series of Video Games in Grapevine IN LIFE ARTS COUNTRY MUSIC REVIEW I CONCERT Lukas Nelson plays with his dad Willie and Harmonic Tribe at the Willie Nelson Fourth of July Picnic on Tuesday STAR TELEGRAMJEFFERY WASHINGTON in the Fort Worth Stockyards Starr offers a fresh take on concert tradition By PUNCH SHAW SrFUAl TO TUT STAR TELEGRAM GRAND PRAIRIE Drumming legend Ringo Starr performing with the latest version of his All-Starr Band made an important contribution to rock roll in his concert at Nokia Theatre at Grand Prairie on Monday night Not that there is anything new in that Starr has had profound influence on a number of aspects of the art of rock percussion since his days as one-fourth of the greatest thing that ever happened iapopular music from the way drummers hold their sticks to how they are presented onstage (they up on stands before Ringo) But possibly historical moment was not directly musical This particular gathering of rockers worked well as a band but when Richard Marx and Billy Squire are part of the act it is not likely that important new musical trails will be blazed and they were not Starr was as enthusiastic and charming as ever chatting with the sparse audience of 2208 and even accepting birthday gifts from fans (he will turn 66 Friday) But his trot through his own list of usual suspects Yellow Submarine Photograph It Come Easy et al) was merely a pleasant revisit to a place we have all been before Fellow skins technician Sheila who has participated in several of these All-Starr tours and Texan Edgar Winter provided some of the best performances of the night An extended version of the Frankenstein was one of the highlights of the evening But it was near the end of the concert that Starr did something that will (hopefully) change rock shows forever he blew the cover on the faux encore Near the finale of the 2 2-hour performance Starr humorously explained to the audience that since know we are coming back and you know we are coming there was no need to leave in the first place So he and his All-Starrs launched into their planned encore With a Little Help From My Friends without the usual preface of a transparently false exit It was a typical bit of honesty from one of the most genuine and easy-to-love musicians in the history of rock Let us all hope he has started yet another tradition 10000 fans enjoy picnic BY STEFAN STEVENSON STAR TFLKRAM STAFF WRI IT FORT WORTH There was a little rain mud and no bonus act of the stature of Bob Dylan but Willie annual Fourth of July Picnic in the Fort Worth Stockyards was still a success More than 10000 people attended the daylong event which is 10000 fewer than last year The rain put the concert more than an hour behind schedule and Ray Price David Allan Coe and Willie and Family hit the stage as of 11 pm But the crowd at the picnic in its third consecutive year in Fort Worth discouraged by the delays or weather There were just too many good vibes wafting from the stage by bands such as Stoney Larue Randy Rogers
