Jack Anderson Enterprises announced Wednesday that former Golden Gloves champions Jim Blake, Monte Cady, Randy Nelsen and Mike Wilson would turn pro on the first pro boxing card ever to be staged at Pershing Auditorium. Matchmaker Tom Lovgren said their opponents would be named later. Also to be named later are opponents for Omaha heavyweight Morris Jackson, who will fight the main event, and for Dick Pelster of Mead and Dale Hernandez, formerly of Omaha, now of Des Moines, who will fight in six-round semi-windup bouts. Wilson has the largest trophy collection of the four Lincoln amateurs turning pro on July 17.

The dedicated fighter, whose amateur career was interruped for two years for Army duty in Vietnam, owns five championship trophies from Southeast District action and one midwest Golden Gloves crown. Wilson won his first Southeast District Golden Gloves title in his first effort as a 16-year-old 126-pounder in 1967 and added the 119-pound championship in 1968 before leaving for Army duty. He returned in 1970, winning the 139-pound championship that year, adding the 132-pound trophies to his collection in 1971 and 1972. Wilson won the 132-pound Midwest title in 1971 and competed in the national Golden Gloves tournament. Nelsen, who also served as a Golden Gloves coach last season, has won four Southeast District 156 pounds in 1968 and at 165 pounds in 1970, 1971 and Cady is a two-time Southeast District king, at 147 pounds in 1968 and at 178 in 1970.

Blake has been away from the fight game the longest, seeing his last competition in 1965 when he won both the Southeast District and the Midwest heavyweight titles to earn a trip to the national Golden Gloves in Kansas City. Blake was beaten twice by Omaha Golden Gloves standout Harley Cooper, losing as a heavyweight in 1963 and when Cooper decided to drop down to the light heavyweight ranks in a 1964 Olympics bid, Blake went down with him, wanting another shot at the man, who is probably the greatest Golden Gloves fighter ever to come out of Nebraska. Jackson, Hernandez and Feister all are former Midwest Golden Gloves champions and Hernandez is unbeaten as a lightweight in the pro ranks. All three turned pro after winning Midwest Golden Gloves titles in 1970, Jackson as a heavyweight (he also won in 1968i, Hernandez at 132 pounds and Pelster at 147 pounds. Jackson owns a pro record of 11-2 while Pelster is 12-3-2.

All three picked up wins in preliminary bouts to the May 25 Joe Frazier-Ron Stander heavyweight championship fight in Omaha.
