19, 1942, in Spur, to J. Waid Griffin, a Methodist minister, and Katherine Ward Griffin, a school teacher. As a young girl growing up in West Texas, Jane was surrounded and nourished by a large extended family. She particularly loved to visit relatives who lived on farms and to go on combined family camping trips all over the western U.S. She graduated from Hockaday School in Dallas in 1960, and from McMurry College in Abilene in 1964.

On July 3, 1964, in Lubbock, Jane married Johnny B. Stewart a Methodist minister's son, following a courtship that began in 1961. Since her new husband was a Navy officer, the two preacher's kids from small West Texas towns found themselves stationed in many cities, including Pensacola, San Diego, Denver, and Norfolk, Va. In 1975, a new career for her husband with an international company resulted in moves to Des Moines, lowa, Plano Texas, Ridgefield, and Montreal, Quebec. Jane enjoyed many trips with her husband and they eventually visited every country in Europe together.

She majored in music in college, and she subsequently employed her musical talents to lead church choirs and children's choirs for many years. She was an active member of the Methodist church in every community she lived in. Because of her open, sincere, soft-spoken personality, she made good friends easily. Jane loved her family dearly and she was an outstanding cook, she loved to travel, meet new people and experience great adventures. She always retained a deep love for her West Texas origins.

Jane was preceded in death by her father, the Rev. J. Waid Griffin, in January, 2001. Survivors: Husband and best friend of 37 years, Johnny B. Army during World War Il and was in the Day Normandy landing with the 2nd Infantry Division where he was awarded the Bronze Star and five Campaign Bronze Stars. William Watterson was a member of American Legion Post VFW Post 8911 and a member of the Dallas Chapter 2nd Division Indianhead. He was preceded in death by his parents, William J. and Johanna Watterson; and sister, Mary Elsworth.
