Gazette and Daily, York, COTJNTY Wednesday Morning, july 17.M957 Church Festival Planned Tonight Fawn Grove band to entertain at event sponsored at New Harmony Presbyterian church, The Brogue. The Brogue The Ladies' Auxi- liary and the Westminster Guild of New Harmony Presbyterian church will hold a festival on the church grounds tonight. Music will be provided by Fawn Grove band. Chicken corn soup, sandwiches, tea and cake will be served starting at 5:30 p.m. Members of the Guild committee planning the festival are: Mrs.

Donald Morton, Lois May and Mrs. Bruce Warner. Guild members will furnish the chicken corn soup, iced tea, cake and candy. Working with the Guild was the Auxiliary committee comprised of Mrs. Larry Wert, Mrs.

Luther Warner, and Mrs. Harry Curran. The auxiliary will furnish chicken or ham sandwiches, pickles, cole slaw and cake. At a business meeting of the Guild held Friday at the home of Mr. and Mrs.

Paul Hively, members voted to have their annual outing at Williams Grove park on August 10. The committee in charge of refreshments will be Mrs. Paul C. Hively, Mrs. Dennis-Warner and Mrs.

Kenneth Bacon. President Mrs. Ralph Meyers, selected Mrs. Max V. Pickei and Mrs.

Paul C. Hively as a nominating committee to prepare a list of nominees for the September election of the Presbyterian Women's organization which is The Area Girl Wins Baton Contests LaDawn Fix, Red Lion, winner in two baton twirling classes of senior girls division at Falls Church, event. Red Lion LaDawn Fix, 252 West High street, won the one baton and two baton classes of the senior girls division in a baton twirling contest Saturday at Falls Church, Va. Last month, Miss Fix, 15, was the high individual winner in a national and state baton contest held here when she captured the national senior girls Class one baton class, the national senior girls two baton class, the state senior girls one baton class and the state senior girls two baton class. A daughter ot Mr.

and Mrs. Woodrow Fix and a majorette of the Red Lion Area High school band, she has been invited to twirl at a University of Maryland football game this fall. The Virginia contest, part of the 200th anniversary celebration at Falls Church, was sanctioned by the National Baton Twirling association, as was the Red Lion contest on June 28. 4-II Club Meets The Red Lion Community 4-H club, at their recent meeting held at the Grange hall, near here, planned to have a softball game and swimming party Aug. 12 at 7:30 p.m.

The 11 visitors and 18 members were introduced to the new assistant county agent, Tony Debrosky, by the associate agent, Archie Hug. The softball game planned for that evening against Hellam 4-H club was postponed due to rain. Ushers League Meets Fifteen men attended the Monday evening meeting of the Bethany EUB church Ushers league at the bungalow of Mr. and Mrs. Curvin A.

Grove at Long Level. These ushers were named for next month: Heckert Horn, head usher, Nevin Neff, captain, Donald Hildebrand, Alvin Lau, Paul Nol-ler, Charles Pettit and Herald Smith. Refreshments were served. Playground Winners Richard Eppley won a Chinese checkers tournament at the Fair-mount park playground Monday, defeating Carolyn Stern and Judy Runkle in the finals. A one-day tennis tournament for playground children, also held Monday, was won by Keith Burke, who defeated Donald Brown in the finals.

lie is a graduate of Kennard-Dale High school. 14 Picnic Scheduled By Sunday School Of Near Red Lion Red Lion The annual Sunday school picnic of Pleasant Grove (East End) EUB congregation, near town, will be held Saturday afternoon and evening in the church grove. Serving of the meal, comprising a menu of chicken corn soup, crabcakes, sandwiches and other foods, will begin at 4 p.m. Concert music will be provided during the evening by the Emigsville band, which was directed formerly by the church's present pastor, Rev. Leon Desenberg.

Bus Trip Planned A bus trip to the Bible gardens in New Jersey on Saturday, Aug. 17, was planned Monday evening by the local Gold Star Mothers chapter. Eleven women attended the outdoor meeting at the home of Mrs. Mary Stabley, North Main street. Refreshments were served by Mrs.

Stabley and Mrs. Mamie Flinch-baugh, co-hostesses. The group will not meet next month. Receive Awards Nineteen drivers of the Red Lion Bus company, received safe driving awards at a safety meeting held Monday evening by the company. Reed, husband of the late Mrs. Martha Byer Reed, who died Friday at his home, 36 Franklin street, were conducted yesterday at Mummasburg Mennonite church, Adams county. A former Biglerville resident, Mr. Reed resided for the past 15 years at the home of. his son-in-law and daughter, Mr.

Jacobus Church ULCW To Hear Talk Today By Former Chaplain Jacobus Rev. Russell T. Shilling, of Hanover, a former chaplain, will be guest speaker at a meeting of United Lutheran Church women of Lutheran congregation of Salem Union church today at 7:30 p.m. at the church. The Lutheran congregation will organize an altar guild at a meeting called for that purpose Monday at 8 p.m.

at the church. Communion was administered Sunday morning at two Lutheran services by Rev. James Nace assisted by Rev. Paul Gladfelter. Altar flowers were placed in memory of William Lentz by his daughter, Mrs.

Nettie Stambaugh. Curvin Kohr discussed the lesson at Salem Union Sunday school when there was an attendance of 468 persons. Mrs. Raymond H. Ness, a member of the Lutheran congregation, is now serving full time as a volunteer parish worker.

The chancel flowers at Christ EUB church service Sunday were given by Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Geiselman. Rev. and Mrs.

Norman R. Snook are counselors of junior high camp this week at Central Oak Heights, West Milton. Joyce Beck, Sandra Gladfelter, Betty Myers and Barbara Trout, members of Christ EUB church and school, are attending the junior high camp at Central Oak Heights. Twenty-three persons were present at the meeting of Society of Farm Women, Unit 2, held at the home of Mrs. G.

Elmer Krout recently. A committee was appointed, composed of Mrs. Elizabeth Strayer, Mrs. Chester Stump, Mrs. Cletus Innerst, Mrs.

Helen Spangler and Mrs. Mary Herbst, to arrange for a bus trip in the near future. Mrs. Carrie Fuller, president, presided. A TV program, "I Have A Secret," was presented.

A report on the county picnic was given. The birthdays of Mrs. Gertrude Herbst, Mrs. Mabel Leader, Mrs. Elizabeth Strayer and Mrs.

Flora Giesey were recognized. Mrs. N. J. Leader will be hostess at the next meeting.

California Residents Returning Home After Visit At Dallastown Dallastown Rev. and Mrs. J. Stuart Innerst, Pasadena, left Monday to return to their home after spending a five-week trip in the eastern states and several days visiting here. A Dallastown native and former missionary to China, Rev.

Rev. William A. Speers, pastor of Cross Roads Methodist church, officiated. Nathan and Clarence Snyder, Leonard Leffler, Purd Rineholt, Charles Arnold and Robert Reno served as pallbearers. Interment was in Cross Roads Methodist cemetery.

2, will be held on the Steward Ebersole farm, York RD 3. BIRTHDAY IN GERMANY Pfc. Claude C. Mays, son of Mrs. Carrie Tuch, of Street, who celebrated his 21st birthday anniversary Monday in Frankfurt, Germany, where he is serving with the 87th Infantry division.

He received basic training at Fort Ord, after entering the service in April last year. Barbeque Outing Planned By Lions About 500 persons expected to attend annual event of area clubs tomorrow evening near East Prospect. East Prospect About 500 persons are expected to attend the annual chicken barbeque outing of Zone Region 7 of District 14-C tomorrow evening at 6:30 o'clock at the property of Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Bernstein, Wrights-ville RD 1, near here.

Bernstein, who is the newly-in--ducted district governor, will be host to members of six area clubs, their wives and guests. Clubs of Zone A are East York, Kreutz Creek Valley, Wrightsville, East Prospect, of which Bernstein is a member, Windsor and Yoe. Various state and district officials and international counselors of this area will attend the fete. Earl Good, York, who is chairman of the event, stated the entertainment program will include a water show by men of York YMCA and music by the Junior Saints band, comprises of East Prospect youths. Games also will be played at the Ladies' Night affair planned by the presidents and secretaries of the six participating clubs.

Ministerial Student To Conduct Services At Delta Area Church Delta Randolph Thrasher, a second-year ministerial student at Duke University Divinity school, wil be guest preacher at worship services Sunday and on July 28, at First Methodist church. The guest preacher is a member of Hiss Methodist church, Baltimore. Rev. John Cassell Hilbert, pastor, will be on vacation during this period. Fawn Grove band adv. il6-2t John T. Hendrix, 78. Sfewartstown RD, Dies Stewartstown John T. Hend- rix, husband of Mrs.

Alzetta Morrison Hendrix, died at 5 a.m. yesterday at his home, Stewartstown RD 3, near town, after a brief illness. A retired farmer, he was 78. Mr. Hendrix, son of the late William and Mary Hendrix, died of coronary thrombosis.

He was a member of the Stewartstown Presbyterian church. Besides his wife, he leaves a brother, Harry D. Hendrix, York, and three neph- ews, George Hendrix, York, and Paul and Henry Morrison, Stewartstown RD. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Webb Funeral home, here, by his pastor, Rev.

Ralph E. Kauffman. Interment will be in Stewartstown cemetery. FIELD FIRE Dover Fire burned over about one-half acre in a field on the property of Walter Stambaugh, Dover RD 1, three miles north of northwest of here, yesterday at 1:15 p.m. Dover Fire company extinguished the blaze.

AIR FORCE ENLISTEE Preston Eugene Pangle, son of Mr. and 31 rs. George Stine, 134 First avenue, Red Lion, who recently enlisted in U. S. Air Force.

He is now undergoing basic training at Lackland Air Force base, San Antonio, Tex. He attended Red Lion Area High school. if i.
