Friday night's Masters main event while Ronnie Holden took the Semi-Pro division feature the same night Last laps Texas Raceway in Kermedale has scheduled its annual Mother's Day Powder Puff race for Saturday along with match races between National Muscle Car Association champions Tony Christian and Pat Musi on Friday proved that a driver doesn't have to be on a NASCAR or Indy-car team to have a good pit crew His crew is like many that work for little or no money on short-track cars throughout the country "When they brought the car in to the pits everybody knew basically what they had to do" said Hull who is from Kennedale "We got after it and took apart what we needed to take apart and put it back together" Hull 18 was not the only driver to sustain damage in a rough-and-tumble race on the quarter-mile track Seventeen cars lined up to take the green flag for the main event but after two aborted starts 12 finally started the race Claud Estes sustained heavy damage to the right side and front of his car during the second aborted start to the race Veteran driver Keith Green had an axle break in the second lap but somehow avoided colliding with any other cars on his way to the pit area TMS opener Casey Smith 13 of Austin BY LEN HAYWARD Star-Telegram Stall Writer Rawdy Hull's crew made sure he was not going to miss the first race in the Texas All-Star Modified series Friday night at Heart 0' Texas LOCAL Speedway just north of Waco MOTORSPORTS Another car loone collided with Hull's on the front stretch during the third Winged Modified heat race and his car sustained heavy front-end damage which from a distance looked like it could have kept Hull out of the 30-lap main event But Hull's crew which consists ofIiim his father and car owner Wayne and friend Jeremy Collins fixed the damage in less than 30 minutes and his crew replaced a piece of the A-frame and a bent mile Replacing the axle also meant having to tear down and put back together most of the front end made George Teague did wrong and why the Packers traded him to Atlanta in 1996 Look at the tapes from Atlanta and try to understand why the Falcons disposed of the former first-roundI pick a month later This is the drill Cowboys scouting director Larry Lacewell went through just before to the start of the 1996 season Lacewell could not figure it out and the Cowboys signed Teague in time for the Cowboys' final preseason game that year Lacewell found himself in a familiar position last month when the Miami Dolphins who lured Teague from Dallas with a high-priced multiyear contract became the third team to bid farewell to Teague Once again Lacewell and the Cowboys determined Teague suited their needs even if he seems to suit no one else's The Cowboys signed the five-year veteran to a two-year deal yesterday "As things went Dallas was there immediately for me to come in 1996 and have me play Again this year when I was released from Miami it wasn't too long before I started talking to the Cowboys again" Teague said "It feels good to know that you're actually wanted and not there just to fill a spot There seemed to be a legitimate interest from both ends from the organization and myself" Teague immediately emerges as a strong candidate to start at free safety and replace Brock Marion who coincidentally signed a longterm high-priced deal with Miami in the off-season Substituting for Marion is nothing new for Teague Ile is the BOYD RACEWAY Boyd Gates open at 6 pm racing starts at 8 pm Tomorrow: Regular program and Kids Box Car Race Classes competing: IMCA Sprint Press player who took over Marion's starting position late in the 1996 season when Marion was lost with a shoulder injury Teague started the final six games of the season then went on to put in one of the best performances by a defensive player in recent Cowboys playoff history in a wild-card game victory against the Minnesota Vikings at Texas Stadium Teague made three big plays in the first half forcing an end-zone fumble forcing another fumble and returning an interception for a touchdown That game probably had a lot to do with the Dolphins and head coach Jimmy Johnson signing Teague the following off-season He is trying to figure out what led to his one-season stay Teague started six games for the Dolphins "Even though the year was up and down on the playing field at the time I thought it was the right decision to make for me and my career Things just didn't pan out the way I would like them to" Teague said "So here I am again doing this stuff all over again" This is the second time the Cowboys believe that they have found Teague in the right place at the right time With Marion in Miami the team was faced with the prospect of relying on a player to emerge from the inexperienced trio of Charlie Williams (zero starts) Omar Stoutmire (one start) and Kenny Wheaton (zero starts) "He's here to compete We've got a safety spot open" Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said "I see based on when he was here that he can do very good things for us This is more about his availability his skills than it was about concern over the players we have here We couldn't afford to pass on him" Ilosie Karp (M17) 390-7700 tive free-agent contract with the Dolphins "People finally recognized his skill level last year" Woodson said "I think he is one of the better safeties in the league the best athletically I'm going to miss competing with him We made each other better players" Marion's departure left a void at Woodson's home as well "Our families are very close" Woodson said "My wife and his wife are close Our kids play together The toughest thing is my son lost his little girlfriend They are about the same age That was about the hardest thing right there" McIver has no regrets Cowboys guard Everitt McIver said he had no regrets about missing the Cowboys' first minicamp the last weekend in April McIver a free-agent acquisition from the Dolphins said he appreciates the opportunity the Cowboys are giving him but said witnessing the birth of his daughter Brial len was more important Briallen is McIver's third child Ile has two boys ages 4 and 2 "You got to take care of home first" McIver said "A lot of these guys do this job because we like it and we got families to take care of I don'ysee anybody being a man if you neglect your family Family has to come
