and Mrs. Mason, nee THE CADI'S LEVEE. At the Police court this morning John Batty was charged with having had an Alaska Indian woman in his house for the purpose of prostitution. He pleaded not guilty but the evidence was overwhelmingly against him. The iragistrate ordered that he pay a fine of 150 or go to jail for two months.

He got angry at this and wanted to know if that meant that be should work on the streets. The magistrate added that the two months would be with hard labor. Marguerite, the Indian woman, who was, the magistrate said, at the bottom of all the trouble, was fined i25, with the option of spending 30 days in the new skookum house.
