Born in Berkeley, Nov. 15, 1918 to Mitchell and Bella, and passed away peacefully at the age of 85 on April 6, 2004. Known as Bud to everyone who knew and loved him. Survivedby his loving wife of 63 years, Virginia; daughter Linda Foley of Moraga, CA; son Keith (and spouse Liz) ofSacra- mento; adored by granddaug Jennifer Tiefenbachof Colorado and Sara Gar- evich of Sacramento.

A California native, he grew up in Albany, CA, and became a safety engineer in the Richmond shipyards from 1942-45. Bud joined Norcal Food and Distribution after WWII and rose to co. VP by the 1960s. He moved his family to Lake Tahoe, NV in 1972 where he started Ponderosa Sales in Carson City. Core-Mark International bought hiscompany in 1980 where he was a manager until here- tired at 74.

He loved to work and was an excellent carpenter. He and Virginia moved to Reno in 1986 and then to Rocklin in 1995. In his final years, he enjoyed life as the president of his homeowners association. He will be greatly missed by his wife, family, friends and neighbors. Bud will be cremated at the Chapel of the Valley Mortuaryin Citrus Heights where his remains will be kept by his wife until final internment at the Sunset Mausoleum in ElCerri- to, next to his mother and father.Memorial Services are to be announced.

She was the widow of the late Leo Greenfield ofPel- ham, NY. Anne was a native of New York City and a resident of Sacramento for 16 years. She is survived by her daughter andson-in- law Margaret andRich- ard Olebe ofCarmich- ael, CA, and son and daughter-in-law James and Paula Greenfieldof West Hartford, CT, and five grandchildren: Edward Olebe, Leo and Andrea Olebe, Michelle Greenfield, and Daniel Greenfield. Anne hada life long commitmentto public service, especially education. In Sacramento Anne wasactive in the Renaissance Society and Friends of the Sacramento Public Library.

She alsovolun- teered at theCrocker Art Museum and the Sacramento Theatre Company. In Pelham, New York Anne served as a trustee of the Pelham Public schools, and of the Pelham Public Library. She was also very active in the Democratic Party, Community Chest, and PTA. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 13 at 3:00 PM at the NorthSacramento Funeral Home, 725El Camino Avenue, Sacramento, CA. A private interment will takeplace in New York at a later date.

(Burke) A memorial service will be held on April 19, 2004, for Harriet A. Hathenbruck (Burke) of Redwood City, who died on April 9, 2004 of complications from old age. She was 92.

Harriet was born in 1912 in Sacramento, CA, to William and Harriet Rubie Burke and spenther early years there. After completing a degree in education at San Jose State College she returned to theSacra- mento Valley and taught elementary school in the Marysville area. She married Bill Hathenbruck in 1945 and they settled in Redwood City. She was involved in numerous school andcommunity activities for many years. Harriet was a very special person to those family members, friends and neighbors who knew her and she will be remembered for her compassion and care for others.

Harriet is survived byson Dean, daughter-in-law Lois and grandsons Paul and David of New South Wales, Australia and extended family David and KarenJew- ett of Eugene, Oregon. MULHOLLAND, Roberta Bobby On Sunday, April 4th, 2004, at the age of 80, Bobby sailed off tojoin her sailor Jim, who preceded her just 19months ago. Born inPenn- sylvania, on Groundhogs' Day 1924, she was the only child ofMary and Ralph Smith. Named Roberta Mae liked to be called Bobby.

Theearly years of herlife were spent in Greenville, Tennessee where the Smith family has roots. Her mother, Mary, died when Bobby was 12 which devastated her. She eventually went to Oklahoma to live with Mary's sister, Mom Mae and Uncle Clarence, where she attended high school with her cousins. Happy times returned. After graduation she returned to Greenville before moving to New Orleans.

It is there that the redhead met her sailor and shipmate for the next 56 years. After a whirlwind courtship, they were married and she took on the role of Navy wife and the title of Mrs. James W. Mulholland. Let the packing She moved whenever Jim's port changed.

By 1950 they had two daughters and they had moved several times. During these early years, her sailor was out to sea frequently and she, alone, kept the home fires burning. In 1955, the family moved to the Subic Bay, in the Philippine Islands, and lived the good lifefor 4 years. Bobby worked at the military store on the base. She was the first female assistant manager.

She was very active inthe PTA and Eastern Star during these years. She and Jim started friendships during these years that would be lifelong. These four years held many of her fondest memories. In 1959, the family returned to California where she Jim bought their first home. She continued to work full time until she retired in 1970.

She and Jim celebrated their 55thanni- versary with a cruise to Alaska. She was a wonderful Mother, Wife and Grandmother. She offered advice only when asked. Shewas a loving, thoughtful, affectionate, supportive, generous, considerate, charitable woman who was always there with a smile, hug kiss. Bobby was an avid reader, loveddoing the daily crossword puzzle and balanced her checkbook to the penny.

She looked forward to the many trips to Tahoe and Reno where she played the slots. She Dad had a wonderful marriage. She lived a full life. If we could all be so fortunate. She has been cremated and her ashes, along with be spread at Pismo Beach.

This was their favorite vacation spot for over 25 years, where they enjoyed many a martini, watching the sunset from their beach front balcony. We are grateful to Dr. Bridgette Berry whose excellent care of Roberta allowed us a little more time with her. A special thanks to UCD Hospice staff for their caringsupport. Missed deeply by her devoted family: daughter PJ Valentine, son-in-law Bill Stout, grandson Tony Valentine, granddaughter Gina Fox and her husband Dan Fox.

Also, survived by daughter Sherry Donovan and grandson Donald J. Donovan. A wake will be held in her honor on Saturday, April 17th from 1-5PM, at 2541 San Jose Way, Sacto. RADDEN, Thelma Gibson Feb. 18, 1903-Apr.

7, 2004 A native Californian departed this life on April 7, 2004 in Sacramento, CA. She was the first ombudsman in Sacramento. Thelma was a graduate of Oakland Technical HS and attended nursing school at Kansas City, Missouri Hospital 5 2. Upon graduation from nursing school, Thelma returned toCalifornia where she found it necessary to take science classes at UCBerkeley in order to qualify for a California State nursing license. Thelma obtained her BA from Wayne State University in Detroit and became a lifetime member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

For over 20 years Thelma wasem- ployed by the American Red Cross as Director of Home Nursing. Thelma is survived by her sister, Audrey Gibson Robinson and niece, Jeri Robinson, both of Oakland and her great- nephew, Frederick Robinson of Sacramento along with many relatives and friends.Ser- vices will be held on Tuesday, April 13, 2004 at 10am at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Sacramento. RITTER, Walter Duane Born June 29, 1936in Kansas City, Missouri. Passed away at home on April 9, 2004 of a thoracic aorta aneurysm. Walt is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Betty, and fourchildren: Sue Mundy (Don) of Sacramento, Hank Ritter of Sacramento, Tom Ritter ofBoston, Kathy Miller ofCotton- wood, and five grandsons: Will and Donald Mundy of Sacramento, Matthew, Andy andZa- chary of Cottonwood which put a sparkle in his eyes.

He also has one sister, Dorothy Grantello, of Overland Park, Kansas. Walt was raised in Texasand Kansas City and later moved to Sacramento where he served in the Air Force at McClellan Air Force Base where he was an airborne radio operator.He worked for the Post Office, Aerojet, and then joined the Sacramento County Sheriff'sDe- partment on December 3, 1963 and then retired January 5, 1991 as a Detective in the Metro Division. Upon retiringhe worked for Campbell's Investigations for several years. He was also a reserve deputy for the Work Release Program for ten years. He was a member of SCERA and the 7-11 Club; the great enjoyment of his life the Saturday Night Poker Club; the Starlite Shufflers Square Dancing Club; and the Starlite Stumblers Exhibition Group.

Walt's real love was his family and his many friends.He will be sadly missed by all those who dearly loved him. Familyand friends are invited to a visitation on Tuesday afternoon between 2 and 4 p.m. at Lombard's Funeral Home located at 1550 Fulton Avenue, Sacramento. Born in Hollister, CA, Mrs. Robles spentthe last 16 years in Herald after 18 years as a Sacramento resident. As well as being a tax tech at the Franchise Tax Board, Mrs. Robleswas a full-timeGrandma, mother, and wife. She is survived by husband Frank Robles ofHerald; daughters Alisia Sanchez and Tina Robles of Herald and Regina Robles of Galt; grandchildren Kiko, Gabby, and Roni; and her and sisters in Sacramento.

There will be a visitation from 9:00 AM- 2:00 PM on April 13 at Ben Salas Funeral Home in Galt, followed by a 3:00 PM graveside service at Galt Cemetery. ROLOFF, William Bill Davis 54, of Rancho Cordova, died at his home on March 7, 2004 of undetermined causes.Mr. Roloff had been a Deputy Sheriff for 24 years in Placer County, California. Born in Ross, California on January 27, 1950 to Arnold and Ethel Roloff, he is survived by siblings: Tom Roloff and sister in-law Lynn of Sacramento, Joyce Dowd of San Diego and Betty Granger ofTuc- son, Arizona. A Brother, Fred Roloff, preceded him in death.

Additionally, he leavesDaugh- ter, Monica Roloffof Meadow Vista and Grandson, Todd Lemma of Meadow Vista; and former wife, Sharon Roloff, who lives in Folsom. Bill's career with the Placer County Sheriff's Office began in Tahoe in 1971; he later served in Auburn also. His dutiesincluded Patrol, Detectives, Jail and special assignments includingDive Team and Searchand Rescue, as well as being part of the original team that developed the PCSO Wellness Program. He retiredfrom the Sheriff's Department in 1996 at the rank of Sergeant. As a sports enthusiast physical fitness and bodybuilding were a major emphasis in Mr.

Roloff's life and he was admired for his physical skills. He was an athlete whoplayed on many teams sponsored by the Placer County Sheriff'sDe- partment and Deputy Sheriff's Association; football, basketball and softball were team sports he loved.Rac- quetball and skiing were also favoriteindi- vidual sports. Healso worked as Security Protection for theSan Francisco Forty Niners in their former summer training home ofRock- lin, enjoying that immensely. He loved golf and enjoyed many days playing his favorite golf courses in thePlacer County area. Oneother favorite activity was yard design and gardening, for which he was noted.

His love for his Harley Davidson motorcycle took him on many rides andadven- tures throughoutthe western United States during his retirement years. Achieving numerous promotions, he took an early retirement in 1984 as one of their top Executive Vice Presidents. He then purchased Lumen Publications, a regional educational publishing company out of New Jersey. His mother Virginia, also an educator for over 50 years, wrote a Phonics Program for grades K-12 and Gayle promised he would publish her reading program. Gayle kept his promise, changed his company name to The Richards Group, Inc.

and continued to provide both public and private schools with his many textbooks. Gayle was dedicated to the continued education and literacy of children and adults. His hobbies were reading, his love for animals and especially golf. He joined Rancho Murieta Country Club in 1988 and was President of the Board of Directors in 1992. Filipski (David) and the late Howard A. Baldwin Jr. Loving grandmother to Jennifer Decastro and James A. Filipski, all of Buffalo, NY. Born in East Orange, NJ to Flora May (Hopple) and Clarence Emery Rogers, she passed away at home in the arms of her daughter on April 10, 2004.

She earned a degree in socialwork from NY University and a master's from Hartford worked as a social worker in NYC until her marriage to HowardA. Baldwin in 1945. After his death she worked for Bakelite and Hoffman La Roche to support her two small children. She moved to CA upon her marriageto the late Arthur E. Schillinger and lived in Fair Oaks, Carmichael, and Citrus Heights for almost 50 years.

Her young son was lost in a rafting accident onthe American River in 1962. A state of CA employee, she worked at the Capitol for Bldgs. Grounds (Finance), Highways, and the Dept. of Justice. After her retirement, she was an active senior, making daily calls to the elderly, making sure her ladies had something special for birthdays and holidays.

Shevolun- teered at St. Pauls Center and transcribed books into braille for the blind. A lifetime animal lover and advocate, she was involved in rescue work. She said it was never too late to learn something new and learned to milk goats at age 65. A city girl, she kept sheep and goats, and a gaggle of geese on her Carmichael property.

She raised Cocker later exotic birds. She enjoyed gardening, writing keeping up with the latest medicaladvances from Tufts and Harvard. She was a lifetime member of the Capitol City Bird Society and a member of theSan Juan Chapter 5 563 Order Of The Easter Star for over 30 years.
