IV, 11 WOMAN RUNS GARMENT FACTORY Polio Victim Is Named Texas' 'Handicapped Person Of Year DALLAS, June 18 Mrs. Daisy May Conroe, who didn't learn to use her polio-crippled legs until she was 10 but now operates small garment manufacturing company, is the "Handicapped Person of the Year" in Texas.

She was honored Wednesday night not only for her own personal achievements, but for furnishing employment for 15 other handicapped persons, most of them more than 50 per cent disability. Shivers Makes Award Laurence R. Melton, chairman of the Dallas Committee for Employ the Handicapped, presented Mrs. Conroe to Gov. Allan Shivers as the best example in Texas of how the most severely handicapped person con be properly employed.

Shivers made the award. She will be nominated for the national award to the President's Committee on Employment ot tht Physically Handicapped. Mrs, Conroe was stricken wifh polio when she was a child and learned to walk after her 10th birthday. She is permanently impaired in both legs and still walks only 'with the greatest difficulty.
