A. E. Cooke. That he had been successful in Ms quest was Indicated when he dramatically produced two bottles of beer and waved them from the pulpit. Mr.

Cooke stated he had heard recently ihat the clubs had all been closed down and later he had Informed that this was not so. lie then put on an old hat and an old coat and In the course of the evening visited eight clubs. Four of them were closed tight, two were open but were apparently doing no business and two were selling beer. He had no difficulty In getting beer at the first and the last clubs he visited. While the audience was wondering If he had drunk tho beer he produced the full bottles and set them on the pulpit.

Mr. Cooke said he believed Chief Anderson was endeavoring to enforce act. He also declared he thought Attornev Gensral A. M. Manson was honestly trying to enforce the liquor laws of the province.

But, he contended, the liquor laws were almost Impossible of enforcement. Holds Audience In Rapt Attention "They say I'm a dancln' hound and a wise coon, and all that," beamed Bill Robinson, colored dancing hit at the Orpheura this week, "but I'm just one of my race that has been fortunate. I say I've been fortunate, meaning it in every Bense of the word, too." That he has been fortunate doesn't half express it. And the reason for It is that he Is deserving. In the first place Bill Robinson impresses a person because of his ability to see himself.

He knows his place, is courteous and respectful. He Is a close observer and studies all the time. He has won the friendship of managers, heads of booking departments and performers by his absolute regard for others. Secondly, he Is a performer and an exceptional one, too. The vaudeville stage today doesn't present a clog dancer who is able to hold an audience in such rapt attention as he.

He has a knack of "selling his act," as it is called, to the public's liking. And there aren't many shows in a week's stand that he doesn't "stop." He is neat and quiet in his work. He goes aoout his dancing seriously, making every tap of the foot count und going from one step to another with the utmost ease and technique. He is a master of "doubles" and "triples." As an imitator he wins admiration as well. Hilliard S.

25. "Man vs. Beast" is one of the most dramatic pictures I have ever seen. This picture was ird iDL.OO prevent shrinkage; all one price, per yar With "Youth" as the headllner and a company of clever young artists presenting it, the bill at Pantages theatre this week has the pull of youthful attraction and Is besides a good well balanced programme.

Maud Daniel with a company of children, varying in age up to their teens, present an artistic and funny series of dances and "stunts." Special honors go to little Domlnlck Palumbo, two feet and a half high and with a genuine sense of humor, and to Mary Caroline Daniel, character singer. Prosper and Maret are seen in some hand to hand gymnastics that are extraordinary, while James and Etta Mitchell provide laughs in abundance as well as gasps in their daring tricks on the swinging ladder. As eccentric dancers. Mills and Miller score, while Dan Caslar and the Beasley twins present a well staged and prettily dressed mixture of violin and piano playing and singing. Sosman and Sloan, old favorites, put on an amusing and distinctive sketch.

Aesop's Fables and a screen comedy complete a really good entertainment. Karr Is at work on a series of comedies which he hopes will elevate him to the place of popularity that was once Fatty Arbuckle's. He calls himself "Fatty" Karr. He writes me as follows: "I had always wanted to go on the screen, but I realized that it would have to be in comic roles, since nature had cast me in so generous a mould. I went to see almost every picture Ar buckle made. I analyzed them.

"My study of pantomime enabled me to get parts in 'The Beautiful Liar, 'Human Hearts' and 'Omar, the Tent Maker." "Then I played In an Al St. John comedy. Bruce Mitchell, the director, told me that since the banning of the Arbuckle films there was a great opportunity for a fat comedian. "In making these comedies I do not feel that I am an Imitator. I want to develop my own individual style of comedy.

Then I may be able to achieve the popularity that once was Arbuckle's He would not have gained that popularity had his eomedy not been distinctive and individual." $3.95 top $8.95 44. in One of Strongest Plays Of Season As a dramatic offering "The Easiest 'at the Empress this week, headed by Margaret Marriott and Associated Players present one of the i strongest plays of the entire season. While everyone may not agree with the story in its entirety, its production brings back the old saying that "one half the world does not know how the other half lives." It is a problem in happiness and sacrifice. Miss Marriott's part discloses much of how the is led in New York among the denizens of Broadway and she Is called upon to sjiow her qualities a an emotional actress. She lives up to the role and to the appreciation of her friends. Both J.
