Kincaicl of the Superior Courts. The Volstad boy died of peritonitis resulting from a ruptured appendix when his mother, Mrs. Lillian Volstad, because of religious scruples, refused to permit him medical aid.

Superior Judge Robert H. Scott, in juvenile division, signed an order transferring him to General Hospital for treatment, but the boy was beyond hope when he arrived. The jury yesterday charged responsibility for his death to "those persons in whose care deceased was given on his removal from his home." Judge Kincaid, sitting en bane with Judge Scott, signed an order expunging the result of the inquest, declaring the verdict was contrary to the law and the evidence. Coroner Frank Nance characterized the verdict as "the worst miscarriage of justice I have seen in the 17 years during which the coroner's office has held more than 15,000 inquests." He set a new inquest for next Tuesday, at which time he said he will conduct an all-day inquiry, if necessary. "I deeply regret," Nance said, "that such an action, by this jury, has caused publicity which reflects on the work of juvenile officers and other authorities who have been endeavoring in every way this child's life." Judge Scott signed the removal order after repeated appeals of neighbors to police, and after the refusal of the mother to take the advice of physicians that the boy should be immediately hospitalized.

Film Actor's Wife Is Granted Divorce (United Press Leased Wire) HOLLYWOOD, Aug. film marriage had ended today when Louise Stanley was granted a divorce from Dennis O'Keefe on her plea that the actor said he didn't love her any more. Superior Judge Charles D. Ballard signed the decree for Miss Stanley against O'Keefe, whose real name is Edward J. Flanagan.

The couple was married March 10, 1937, and separated 13 months later. News About Hollywood TTOLLYWOOD, Aug. 13. (U. -O- Irene Castle McLaughlin, who with Vernon Castle formed America's best known dancing team 25 years ago, was in Hollywood today to act as technical adviser on a picture.

In addition to her work as technical adviser on a picture based on the dancing careers of the Castles, she will design costumes to be worn, in the film. This is Mrs. McLaughlin's first visit to Hollywood although attempts have been made in the past to get her signature on movie contracts. She expects to be here about a month before returning to her Chicago home, Milton Berle, screen comedian, today proposed a permanent memorial to Pearl White, who died recently in Paris, as a tribute of the film industry to one of its greatest stars. The comedian's interest in a memorial to Miss White is more than a casual tribute to a former star; Berle played a child role in the famous "Perils of Pauline" series which made Miss White the biggest box office attraction of her day.

Berle was undecided what kind of memorial should be erected. He said he wished to consult with other friends of the actress before any decision was reached. Floyd Morgenstern, scholarship winner at the Juillard Institute of Music, today was in Hollywood to study film music under Boris Morros, Paramount music director. He will watch the scoring of several pictures to learn the technique. Tyrone Power, movie star, yesterday dedicated a bronze plaque to the memory of his father, the late Tyrone Power.

Shakespearean actor, at Hollywood Bowl. The plaque commemorated the elder Power's appearance at the first performance in the amphitheater in 1916 when it was known as the Beechwood Bowl. He appeared in the play "Julius Caesar" with the late Theodore Roberts in the role of Caesar, Others in the cast were William Farnum, Frank Keenan and DeWolf Hopper. The national propaganda department today asked the cinematographic censorship to ban films produced' by Columbia pictures and Grand National pictures allegedly containing anti-coffee propaganda.

Titles are not revealed. The censorship board also was requested to take measures to curtail production of films prejudicial to Brazilian interests, adding that if motion picture companies persist in such production they should be banned from exhibiting in Brazil. Paulette Goddard to Back Skiing Resort (United Press Leased Wire) HOLLYWOOD, Aug. Goddard left by United Air Lines late yesterday for Reno, where she is engaged in sponsoring a winter ski resort. She said she would remain in Reno until Sunday, when she would go to Pebble Beach, for several days.

She was accompanied by her mother and an architect, Wallace Neff. 6,325,498 Tons of Cottonseed Crushed (Associated Press Leased Wire) WASHINGTON, Aug. census bureau reported today cottonseed crushed in the year ended July 31 totaled 6,325,498 tons, compared with 4,498,321 tons the previous year. FINE BILL AT CALIFORNIA Headline Comedy Billed at Rialto "A Girl With Ideas," an excellent comedy, has its first showing at the Rialto theater tomorrow night of a three-day run. In it a socialite acquires a metropolitan daily paper to satisfy a libel judgment and then loses it back to her manager along with her heart and hand. The stars include Wendy Barrie, Walter Pld- geon, Taylor. Tim McCoy is given plenty of opportunity for action in the second picture, "Two. Gun Justice," and 'he conies through with a fine acting performance by giving 'two entirely different characterizations in his portrayal of both Tim Hayes and El Voltage.

Chapter 7 of "Zorro Rides Again" and "Littlest Diplomat" conclude the program.
