Sept. 10, 1983 THi SUN Q.f Si ti Will 1 1 justice i pi WlnWs II II ilj II? roVeTu. HOLLYWOOD Production of CDS' "Four got underway recently after Alan Alda spent "FLASUDAfiCE" liJO, 4.JO, ti10(R) "FIIVATI SCKOCr JilO, i43(t) "SllrElMAfi III" ll.JO, 4ilO, 7.43(FO) "ST8YKI1" lt40, 6i1S, six wccks iranueaiiy wrttirg (and rewriting) scripts to Insure the series will prove a worthwhile successor to the film on which it is based. marllyn bock ALL SEATS $1.00 Hi Alda will only be credited as co-producer (with Marty Bregman) when the show debuts in early '84. But he will guest star on the first segment (along with his daughters Elizabeth and Beatrice) and will also appear in the second.

Carol Burnett, who played his wife In the film version of the comedy, Is scheduled to do a guesting later this month. However, the main focus of the show will be on Jack Weston (the only member of the movie team to have signed on as a regular on the series). Weston's new "Seasons" buddies will Include Marcia Rodd (as his wife) and Barbara Babcock who was signed two days before shooting commenced. Kenny Solms, says many of the stars are taking part because they don't want to see variety become a lost art. Marty also doesn't want to talk speciic dollars.

However, I've learned from other sources that none of the 50 performers will receive more than $10,000. And that has to tell you something about the power of Sandy Gallia, the personal manager who sold the Idea to NBC and, because It's his baby, is winding up as emcee of the events, which will air Sept. 27-29. Gallin and his partner Ray Katx should end up making a fortune off "Live And In Person." It's a Katz-Gallin Paramount production and they've already made arrangements to sell off broadcast rights in many, many, foreign countries where such names as Parton, Rogers, Stewart and Diamond are even bigger than they are in the U.S. Actress Joanna Pettet has been signed for a recur ring role on CBS' "Knots Landing" as the detective who will solve the mystery of who murdered Ciji.

That mystery will be milked for the first nine episodes of the new season while Lisa Hartman, who played Clji, re-establishes herself as a new "Knots" character who looks amazingly like Guess Who. Ann JUllan will not only be getting credit as star of "Jennifer Slept Here," but as co-writer (with her brother-in-law Joey Marcia, Clint Holmes and Bill Fayne) of the theme song for the NBC series. The search is currently underway for a singer who will croon the tune. 1 14- Hi, attending the Emmy Awards. The actress, who's up for honors for her "Hill Street Blues" emoting, says she wasn't going to attend the event because, "I didn't want to buy a dress you wear only one night I spend buckets of money, but I'm cheap that way." She will be there, however, she says, because It's Important to the network.

And she's feeling very kindly to the network at the moment because it has agreed not to change the title of her Sept. 28 TV movie from "Sessions," to a title she disliked so much she'd rather not even dignify it with a mention. Execs involved with NBCs upcoming "Live And in Person" spectacular admit the three-night show which will headline such megastars as Neil Diamond, Rod Stewart, Kenny Rogers, Dolly Parton, Barry Manilow, Joan Rivers and Linda Ronstadt will cost millions. How many millions they're not saying, but this much is for sure: if they were paying those stars even a fraction of their regular going rates, the production could have never gotten beyond the fantasy stage. Marty Pasetta, who's producing the show with Kin Shrlner Is leaving "General Hospital" again.

The son of late comedian Herb Shrlner has decided he's learned all there Is to learn in the soap field and that it's time to try to break Into prime-time TV and movies. "I'm saying goodbye to everything. I'm going back to pounding the pavement," he says. 4 IMBASSV II He explains, "Doing a daytime series is like taking a drug. You get more money every year, you're secure, you get used to a big paycheck.

But while you have a huge following in the Midwest, nobody in the industry knows you." Lama UM W-101i Kin played nice-guy Scotty Baldwin on "General Hospital" from 1977 to 1980, before departing for 'Texas," another daytime video pasture that turned out to be no greener than the one he'd left. He returned to "Hospital" a year later to portray Scott as a much meaner person: "Bitter, conniving a lot more fun to play." Fun though the work might be, he vows he definitely won't return to soaps unless he winds up having to drive a cab, as he did in his younger days in Florida. When your baby arrives.
