THUfcStMY, bECEMEEn ALTON EVENING TELEGRAPH Survey For Hotel At Wood River To Be Made Next Month PAGE WOOD RrVER The Hockenbury system, which will make a survey of the area regarding the needs of a "possible hotel, will be asked conduct the survey in January, if possible. Meeting Wednesday night at the home of Russell Bell, Wood Rive? Township Chamber of Commerce Executive Secretary, the board of directors the organization instructed Bell to write the Hockenbury system, forwarding their instructions. At least one point was cleared up -on Christmas decorations, it was reported. Decorations now are strictly a retail division promotion, It was stated, but the chamber board felt it should encourage all divisions of the organization to carry on individual promotions, and to appoint committees for them. The board went on record as favoring action of the Wood River Ministerial Alliance Wednesday, calling for the observation of a community Good Friday, next April 16, when, board members said, they will ask all stores to close for one hour.

Also in this connection, the board recommended that one Sunday each year be set aside as a civic sab- bath. Dr, Harold Hudson reported on plans of chamber-sponsored football banquet for high school varsity teams In Wood River Township. Friends of the family said the coujle was returning from a visit to Mrs.

Cunningham's sick mother in Nashville when they were involved in -the accident somewhere between here and Highland, and were taken to the Highland hospital. Cunningham is being treated for a severe cut on his wrist, and both Mrs. Cunningham's legs were broken below the knees, it reported. Dorothy Colonius Speaker Wood ClubWomen Told 'Christmas Is Time for Fun' WOOD "Christmas is a time for fun and sentiment and not a period for using one's head and being practical, commercial and tired," Miss Dorothy Colonius told members of the Home Department of Wood River Woman's Club at the December meeting Wednesday afternoon the home of Mrs. Francis Manning. "It is a time for tenderness, devotion and thought of the past and not for feeling she continued. Miss Colonius accompanied her personal observations with poems and timely Christmas stories in both humorous and serious vein'recalling to the group animal.legends, virgin stories and miracles of Christmas. Miss Colonius returned to her teaching duties at Alton High School in October after a year of travel through courtesy of the Ford She covered the nation from New York to Seattle and spent some time in California each day attending theaters and play- houses gaining knowledge to further her abilities in guiding local educational and community theaters.

Mrs. J. P. Hawkins, who has been a life long acquaintance and teacher of the speaker in her elementary school days, introduced her. Mrs.

Hawkins and Mrs. James Elbe were co-chairmen of program arrangements. Mrs. G. L.

Stetson announced the next meeting for February at her home at which time Mrs. Raymond Floyd will demonstrate the making ef chair covers. Mrs. W. F.

East Alton Committee Meets Tonight EAST ALTON The East Alton Homecoming Committee will meet tonight at the Village Hall at 7:30 to continue discussion of plans for renewal of a homecoming celebration in the village next year.
