wuh sickness and advanced years, at BRICK WORK fat J)iiij losmji. the servant giil who made her demand fo' more wages on ironing day M4Ji Wt. tttaL. JMtav'i I last descended to the grave leaving be hind them the memory of their many virtues, and their youngest son, now over forty years of age, occupies the house in which the parents lived and died. This ton who married Miss Vickery, who appears to be a very clev er lady, hat quite a number of sprightly children who were ready early Sabbath morning to start to their Sunday school at Bethany church, two mites away.

What a great country is this in which we live. What diversities of hill and valley and of toil and of forest growth, and what a variety of people hat contrasts present themselves within even one mile square, and all descendants of the same first man. Sunday morning, in company with Mr. Scott Lineberry, I concluded to walk over and visit Mr. Pugh, a short mile distant.

After leaving the railroad going South ward you come to an elevation from which a very fine view is had, extend ing some twenty miles, more moun tainous than one would expect to find in this part of the country. But as we stood on the elevation in question the smoke from almost, if not quite, aozen cnimneys gracelully rose up from the wide spread vale below, where had built and settled the descendants of a past generation. It was a fine picture 01 rustic inc. it strikes me while thinking of it that while we have an increased and increasing number of big tent evangelists, there are few if any who go from house to house in the yet more needy sections of the country to awaken sleepy souls from slumber. This subject is only adverted to in passing.

We are soon at Mr. Wesley Pugh's, a familiar and pleasent place. Hit wife was a daughter of the late John Wolle, a sensible and good man of the old stamp whom many still remember with pleasure. Mr. Pugh lives at the old place, where he has also latel) reared a neat and convenient dwelling house.

It would be very interesting to tome to hear the stories which are still re membered of the times long past, how the deer used to be plentiful in these' woods, and could be seen by persons on the way to church. Mr. Pugh is a merchant, his store being at MillboiO, some two miles distant. His store house was for many years in the yard of his dwelling, but when Millboro was established he moved his business to that place His home is a very pleasant one, and I truly enjoyed the warm hospitality extended. In the afternoon Mr.

Pueh very generously offered to take me in his buggy and convey me to Cedar Falls, some five miles distant, which was very thankful ly accepted, and very toon find my self at the home ot Mr. O. R. Cox, to which place I started on leaving home. J.L.M.

EDITORIAL CORRESPONDENCE. Cedar Falu, N. April 13, '91. Being well acquainted with thi plaae at a pltaiant and desirable vitit- i.tg poi and hav'ng decided to come 6ver and pend the Sabbath, I touk 1 he train a rt ensboro Sa turdtj ven ing with the execution of being here in a short while. It happened, eve, that the train as late in Retting 1'n from Midi on, and on that account alone, our arrival here would be later than usua' but theie was had luck head of wh cli was to require something more of our time.

It wn about dark, and we were about 2 miles of Milltboo when the train came 1 1 a md still, and the passen gers were informed that we were off th track. Presently the rkes of an oxe were heard and on getting out and looking, torches could be seen an I a number of men were found at wark under one ot the freight can whtre one oi the trucks was found to have gotten out ol place anJ was running oat of harmony with evarythin; else Had the train been running fat at the time this rebellious truck jumped the track qu'te an amount of mischief might a b.en do if, and even as it was, the exertions which Capt Over cish and his men were m.ling, and the slight effect which seemed to lor. low, ga the job qi'ite an ugly ap pmnce and showed how important it i to the movement ot a train that all ol its cars ktep, their plac the disabling of one car b'ocking the way of 1 the re The men worked hard, nd several of tbe neighbors came in with proffen o' help, which was really needed It was a muddy place am! dark, and weight to be moved was so considerable that the prospect ol gitting away during the night seeme 1 to me so oomy that I accepted the kind invl-ation of Mr Lin-berry and accompanied him 'o his home, some 250 yards away. In some half hour, as I was seated at supper which Mrs. Lineberry had kindly provided, a noise was heard as if the train had recovered from its non-going condition.

The jerking, hitching noises soon changed into some thing more continuous, and in a short space of time the whole thing was roaring along at a lively rate for Rara-seur. It took but a minute for me to realize the fact that I was left, and I was further convinced that while' it is Uncertain when a railroad car is going to leave its track, it is sometimes equally uncertain when it it going to get back again. I had by this time made up my mind also that there are trilny misfortunes greater than that of bein left, especially if you are left in a good place with whole bones and grip sack and overcoat and umbrella. And besides, considering how easy that that recalcitrant truck had jumped tbe track one time, it was not at all certain but it might do the like again before it reached edar Kails. With all these Kaaona" fctctttment made myself easy and was quietly on hand to tee the dawn of a very beautiful Sabbath day which greeted one's eyes on waking next morning."
