According to Mr.

Hall, he had gone to a room on the main floor of the hotel, which was used as a storeroom. To tills room he only had access. On entering he turned up the incandescent light, and In some way, he says, the light waa attracted to a bucket containing a mixture of gasoline and alcohol, used for cleaning the paint brushes. Fire Started In Bucket. 'The first thing I saw was a little blue flame In the bucket," said Mr.

Hall. "Without stopping to think how It had occurred, I snatched up tho bnckot and turned out of the door. My first Intention was to throw the bucket out of a window, and I bad turned to the right to do so, Unfortunately there were curtains up, and I know I couldn't got the bucket out, so attempted to get Into the lavatory. Falling, I backed along further with the Intention of throwing the bucket down the stairs and out Into the street at tho Columbia street entrance. 'Just at this moment tho girl, Mario, miiBt have seen me from the back end of the corridor.

My back waB toward her, and I suppose she thought I was on fire. In some way or other the sight must have un nerved her, for she rushed up to me and seized ma by the back and spun me around. In doing so, sho threw the contents of the bucket all over herself, and In an Instant was a mnss of flames. A Human Torch. 'Madly sho rushed up the corridor and then back again, her clothing ablaze.

I seized the bucket and rushed to the lavatory to get the bucket filled with water. Then I got hold of her, but she broke loose from me at once, and rushed down to the end of the corridor and fell In the corner. She again stumbled to hor feet and rushed off around the house. Finally I got hold of hor, and emptied the contents of the bucket over her, putting out the flames. With tho assistance of some of tho guests we took the girl Into a room on the northeast corner of the hotel and summoned a doctor." The girl was taken to the hospital by the Red Cross ambulance.

Two women staying at the hotel told of seeing the girl rushing about. One of them had her clothing burned slightly when the girl clutched her. The other wjornan said that Marie rushed Into her room, and, as she eluded her, followed her down the corridor. "I had nothing there with which to put out the flames, and rushed out to try and get a quilt, but the girl followed me closely," was her account of what followed. W.

G. Cox, the hotel's owner, Is at Mount Hood and efforts are being made to communicate with him, In order to find out the last name of the In jured girl. She Is between 30 and 3I years old. HOP CROP IS PRACTICALLY ALL PICKED The last few days have been noted as busy ones for the hop pickers, In that they have been moving buck to their homes In cities and To handle the 40,000 pickers who gathered the crop of the valley was no small matter.
