Monday. April 1, 1974, THE HERALD, Prove, Utah-TV Movie, TV Executive Asks Serials Humane Animal Treatment Have llth TV Sports Calendar Birthdays cruelty to animals a crime, and said "violation of those penal statutes should be scrupulously avoided." Hunt continued: "Your conduct should exemplify the principles of humane treatment for animals that the industry has pledged collectively on your behalf." Two "soap box" operas celebrated their birthdays on Monday, April Fool's Day. Both "General Hospital" on Channel 4 and "The Doctors" on Channel 2 celebrated their llth anniversaries that day. Billy H. Hunt, chief executive of the Association of Motion Picture and Television Producers, has called upon filmmakers to pledge themselves to the principle of humane treatment for animals used in making motion pictures.

In a memorandum to members of the AM1TP, and some 350 contributors to the Association's Contract Services Administration Trust Fund, Hunt pointed out that the motion picture industry has long adhered to the principle that animals used in the production of pictures, both on and off camera, will be treated with humane consideration, and that animals will not be injured or killed for the sole purpose of making a motion picture. "Recognition of this obligation is your responsibility," Hunt reminded his members. Hunt urged filmmakers to "make every effort to insure that motion pictures made by or for your company abide by this principle." He also urged them to discuss with the Hollywood office of the American Humane Association (located at AMPTP's offices) scripts dealing with animal portrayal, and to give serious considerations to AHA recommendations when filming the picture. He reminded filmmakers to include an AHA representative as part of their crew when shooting animal action. Hunt said there are laws on the books in all 50 states which make MONDAY 10:40 i AU-Star Basketball TUESDAY OO 2 Bob Hope's Cavalcade of Champions Awards THURSDAY 8 so 5 National PUyuff Game Milwaukee vs.
