31 INSTANT NESTEA 9qc JAR Af Fred Cramer an official of the US Chess Federation made the phone call to Gudmundur Thorarinsson president of the Icelandic Chess Federation informing him of Fischer's decision to boycott IT WAS NOT Fischer's first complaint against the movie cameras Shortly after play began Wednesday he walkedout for 30 minutes complaining that one of the cameras made him nervous During the walkout Schmid told Fischer nothing could be done about the earners Stein said he had been up all night with Fischer's second the Rev William Lombardy and Cramer trying to settle the question The cameras had been officially sanctioned Under Rule 21 the taking of pictures during the match by official photographers is allcAved as long as cameras are "neigher visible nor audible" The match has been plagued by trouble from the start First the contenders couldn'r agree on where the championship should be held So they compromised half the match would be played in Blgrade Yugislavia and half in Repkjavik BUT WHEN Fischer balked asking for more money and indicating he might not show up unless this de-man was met the Belgrade backers dropped out The match was then rescheduled entirely in Iceland Fischer kept up his money demands to the last When it appeared he might boycott the match for lack of sufficient financial enticement British financier James Slater offered to sweeten the pot But his move to add bout $120000 to the kitty ran into trouble when currency restricions made it impossible for him to bet the money out of Britain The Icelandic Chess Federation put up $125000 The winner was to get five-eights of the pot the loser the remainder Fischer has complained abuut nearly every aspect of the match the lighting the room temperature the chess board and table He and Spassky compromised on the temperature the lighting was modified to meet the American challenger's specifications the mahogany chess table shortened and the board redone four times REYKJAVIK Iceland (AP) Objecting to movie cameras in the hall Bobby Fischer lorfeited the second game of the world chess championship Thursday By failing to show up Fischer gave Boris Spassky a 2-0 lead in the scheduled 24- game series Lothar Schmid the chief --referee told reporters: "The match is not finished We will now have the third game on Sunday" The Russian won the first game Wednesday According to the rules Spas-sky must have 12 points to -win Fischer the challenger Leeds 12 This means 10 more tmplayed gamts may be required if Fischer continues his boycott SCHMID LEFT open the possilAity that the International Chess Federation FIDE could intervene and decide on Fischer's disqualifiOtion if the situation persists Ten minutes before the gheduled start of the second game Fischer informed the organizers of the championship through a US chess official that he was boycotting further play unless three hidden movie cameras were removed from the sports palace Spassky entered the hall on time and took his place at the table At game time Schmid Started Fischer's clock as the rules require Spassky looked perplexed the end of an hour Schmid announced to an angry crowd: "Ladies and genamen Mr Fischer did not appear in the playing hall According to Rule No 5 if a player is more than one hour late he loses the game by for leit" During the hour there were telephone calls back and forth between the sportli zif-ne and Fischer's hot 4 SPASSKY who left the stage at times emerged from behind the curtains after Schmid 's announcement bowed to the crowd and leit Richard Stein lawyer for American promoter Chester Fox said "we did everything we could" to appease Fischer 'Fox who bought exclusive film rights for the ziatch reported that Fischer admitted he could not see or hear the cameras but "said they both-eked him because he knew they were there" Stein emphasized that Fox could not comply with Fischet's demand because "the whole financial structure of the match depends on it" and Spasskv were to get a share of ar proceeds estimated at $27500 each FLAM-PAC 10:00 Sale of Cent 3:00 Somerset 10:30 Holt Squares 3:30 Blo Valley 11:00 Jeopardy 4:30
