poured sugar into the gas tank of Lamar wishbone machine Saturday night But it took four quarters and some careless driving for hopes to sputter and die in a pile of wreckage Mavericks survived some final half thrusts by the Cardinals to hold onto a 10-3 Southland Conference decision before 2200 chilled fans at Cardinal Stadium The victory kept alive a UTA winning streak now at four games and a shot at the runnerup spot in the SLC TIIE GAME also wrote a tragic erd to most successful season The loss broke an eight-game winning streak and left its final season log at 8-3 UTA is now 4-6 The contest paired two of the premier runners Doug Matthews the conference leader and Dexter Bussey But the two teams were greeted with a dense fog and 25 mph north winds after day-long rains had left the
