wrote that the "Golden Saturday November 28 1992 Fort Worth appointments and those lead to frustration" Collins who drew cheers for driving OU to the Nebraska 25 late in the game said he was disappointed Star-Telegram Section Page 9 im When Nebraska tight end Gerald Armstrong caught a 24-yard scoring pass in the third quarter it was his seventh TD reception this season out of a total of eight catches Late in the afternoon frigid Sooners fans began booing every time Gundy re-entered the game and they rose for a lusty cheer when he was replaced by Steve Collins with 3:45 remaining Nebraska fans immediately began chanting "We Want Gundy" In answer to this one Sooners fan shouted at the Nebraskans "Enjoy it while you can Gary Gibbs won't be here forever" OU athletic director Donnie Duncan arrived in the post-game locker room however to reassure one and all that Gibbs will be the coach next year saying "There's not been one discussion among members of the administration the regents the letterman's club or anyone else about Gary's job and there won't be between now and next season Boys" (Gibbs and Gundy) had steered the Sooners into a ditch But Gibbs said he was "proud of the way this team played they fought hard today and we were definitely in a good game until they the Cornhuskers showed their strength and power marching with the second-half kickoff fa 64-yard drive that put Nebraska ahead 17-9 They really asserted themselves" Linebacker Reggie Barnes said he thought last week's meeting was "helpful" "I think a lot of players grew up and it was evident today" he said "This year we just never got over that hump" fullback Kenyon Rasheed said "We got close to it but we never got over it" Gibbs said: "There have been dis that fans had booed Gundy "You can't do that to one person like that it's not right" he said "No one person makes a team fail all by himself" When Collins drove the team to the Nebraksa 25 one fan derisively screamed "Hey Gibbs kick a field goal!" in reference to a late field goal with which the Sooners tied Oklahoma State Notes Nebraska repeatedly burned OU with draws and shovel passes off a wide formation with three receivers set wide to one side of the field "We stole those from Iowa State" coach Tom Osborne said "They ran them with success against us in a 19-10 upset) and we put them in this week" disarray bottomed out But we'll get better "It's difficult and there's frustration I get frustrated myself" Duncan said "But when you make a commitment to a man you honor that commitment because that is what defines your operation Gary is a strong man there's also a stubbornness but every program needs a leader" Thus was dismissed a squad revolt last week which Switzer on his television show had recently termed "stupid" Elaborating he said the Sooners were losing because "they're pretty average" That much was evident in the second half when Nebraska rolled to its biggest point margin against OU since a 44-14 triumph in 1969 For Oklahoma this will mark the first non-probation year since 1983 that there will be no bowl game back to throw tripped and fell over backwards And so once again it was time to runt it has been all season 1'0 Troubled OU lost to Nebraska 33-9 completing its worst season (5- 4-2) since a 3-7 finish under Gomer Jones 27 years ago and at the finish what remained of 69770 witnesses were in fine voice There will be no --Aloha Bowl for the Sooners but at r--least their fans had the triumphant iCornhuskers to kick around: 1 "That's OK you'll get yours in the Orange Bowl" Actually Nebraska (8-2) must still whip Kansas State in Tokyo on Dec 6 to earn that bid but judging from the Cornhuskers' performance here yesterday it shouldn't be a problem After a lethargic first half the 'Cornhuskers arose and rolled to 400 Arkansas thrashes LSU 30-6 Nebraska Oklahoma 7 3 9 14-33 3 6 0 0- 9 Blanton 33 50 interception return (Bennett kick) Blanton 22 Blanton 42 Bennett victory to get the Big Eight berth in the Aloha year Damon's problem was that he wanted to get things done too quickly "He's big and he's strong and he's going to get fouled He tried to avoid fouls instead of getting fouls He thought his shot was going to get blocked and that wasn't the case He's too strong in there to get blocked on a regular basis" The slow-down theme is one Johnson has heard often this preseason He is spending much of his practice time working on highlighting that fine line between being quick and being too quick "I'm quicker than a lot of guys that cover me and I want to use that quickness" Johnson said "I realize I have to use some time and set up my moves I have to take my time look over my shoulder see where the defender is If you make a move too quick you don't fake out the defender He doesn't have anything to react to" Johnson whose father Darryl is a career Army officer was born in Panama City Panama and attended a high school in Germany his freshman and
