Texan A Foyt already a millionaire from his exploits at Indianapolis is fast becoming the spoiler for drivers who earn fabulous incomes from stock car racing The 36-year-old five times national driving champion grabbed another plum away from the big names of NASCAR's Grand National circuit Thursday when he won the pole position for Sunday's $207675 Miller High Life 500 at Ontario Motor Speedway Ile toured the 25-mile layout in a 1969 Mercury at 151711 miles an hour to beat Bobby Isaac of Catawba NC for the honor of leading the 51-car field to the line in the first big event for stock cars at the $255-million West Coast facility It was the second tinie in Iwo weeks that the legendary Foyt has bested the regular speed demons lie edged Isaac the 1970 Grand National champ for the pole position in the Daytona 500 on Feb 14 That feat was worth $5000 for the Texan "You sure are costing me money" Isaac told Foyt who will collect $2500 for his pole effort here "I'm glad we don't have to worry about you in the next race" Foyt whose regular beat is the USAC championship circuit signed with the Wood brothers of Stuart Va to drive their Mercury in the first two races of the season Daytona and Ontario Ile not only won the pole at Daytona but had the race in the bag until he ran out of gas with only a few laps to go Ile wound up fourth Isaac's qualifying speed for the Miller 500 was 150097 mph in a Dodge Twenty more spots in the starting field will be filled today with LeeRoy Yarbrough Bobby Allison and Dick Brooks the leading candidates still without qualifying fishing a plastic worm "The first tap you feel is the bass inhaling the worm" Powell explained ''The second tap is the bass spitting the worm out The third tap you'll feel is me tapping you on the head saying 'You've waited too long to set the hook' The first film presented by Scott who founded the BASS group which gained a membership of over 20000 in only three years concerned water pollution It showed pollution as it is today and included such shots as streams of blood draining from meat packing plants into a river a young boy swimming in a river bracing himself on a sewage pipe as he got out and a trout angler's day of fishing ruined by hot water coming from a plant upstream "Man must use water many things It is a necessity" the films narrator explained "hut he must use it without abusing it" I THE SECOND film was taken at Lake Novi llo in Mexico and showed Scott fishing with Jerry McKinnis Little Hock Ark The two were shown catching numerous bass in the three to six-pound range The final film to) was a masterpiece It was filmed in the clear waters of a Florida lake where the photographer spent numerous days beneath the surface photographing the black bass It showed a bass actually build a nest and protect it from a larger bass Filmed with amazing clarity it also showed black bass beneath the surface feeding on frogs and a young duckling as well as hitting artificial baits and the ensuing battles with shots from both above and beneath the surface The program was just one of numerous similar programs which members of BASS have presented in several other cities across the country "BY HOLDING these seminars" Scott explained "we hope to increase the strength behind our fight against pollution The proceeds from the ticket sales at each seminar are used in the BASS anti-pollotion campaign" BASS already has filed court action against over 200 companies in Tennessee Alabama and Texas for violation of the 71-year-old Federal Refuse Act "If your BASS Seminars can interest more folks in bass fishing maybe they'll become interested in helping clean up our streams rivers and lakes" said Scott Famous Dual Tread Design Contoured Shoulder Durogenl Tread
