Thomas, Collins, 3-r-1 .10 0 2 0 1 i 7' 'ct. A yCwV --Tv t'w i i- i Jr4 vsV' if" a The Fighting Kiddos won an uphill battel from the Taunton team on the Athletic grounds yesterday afternoon by tbe score of 10 to 6. Only a few of the faithful fans witnessed tbe struggle, but all who were present left the field with the feeling that the championship would surely come to Fall River. There was much bad baseball shown, aa well as many sensational plays, and as a whole tbe afternoon proved to be an interesting one for the fans and fanettee. Lefty Martin, the Spindled speedy centerfielder, started on the mound for the locals and while hto delivery was touched up rather freely by the visitors, he would have made a much better showing had hto pals behind him played a clean fielding game.

He was allowed to occupy the center of the stage for five innings, at the conclusion of which the score waa found to be a tie and Hi Haley was delegated to- mound duty in order-to make -vic--tory a surety. Clermont heaved for the Tauntonians and his work for five innings, with the exception of the first, was all that could be desired, bat the final innings proved' his undoing and the bo under Kiernan planked everything the Taunton wirier served up and won in a canter. West, OConnor and Carr were the neroes of the afternoon from a bating standpoint and larruped the offerings of the diminutive Clermont to all parts of the greensward. From a fielding standpoint, the work of Whiteside, the speedy left fielder of the Gilroy tribe, stood out. This fast outfielder took care of no less than five hard chances and the most of them came at critical times.

Eddie Carr also made several nice stops at the midway for the locals, while Drummond, who appeared at the second sack for the visitors, pulled off splendid stop and throw for the Tommies, which brought forth the applause of the fans. The regular umps failed to put in an appearance and Carney of Taunton and McLeod of Fb.ll River did the honors. Their work was really a Joke aa both men gave all possible to their respective teams. On ball and strikes the players were continually kicking. v.

hile several base decisions came in for goodly pannings. "Beauty Bope. erstwhile Fall River first sacker. played the Initial hassock for the visitors and had rather an off-day much to the delight of the bleacherites. Plano Smith, who started the season as a box artist for Fall River, sat on the visitors bench and rooted hard against his old teammates.

Clermont ended the session with a bounder to the box. One run. Carr received free --transportation to the initial hassock. Martin bunted down the third base line on an attempted sacrifice Proulx shot the ball to Bope. who made a raw error and both runners were safe McSherry went (Continued on Page Eight) Everything was calm anS peaceful at Cx meeting of the Colonial league magnates in Providence last night and the proposed changes la the schedule which were put forth by Mr.

Bann-wart, vice-president of the league were not adopted and so Fall River fans will have a chance to see their favorites both on Saturday, Sept. 5, and Monday, Sept 7. The -original, schedule was. not juggled, nor were games transferred from one city to anotner except ln special cases which were covered in toe constitution and by-laws. In the few instances clubs, which have wound up their schedules in some of the cities, but which have postponed games in those places, will play off the games on the other team's grounds, provision haiing been made for such contingencies when the promoters adopted the constitution last March A case in point to the double-header which Fall River plays in Woonsocket tomorrow.

Woonsocket owed the leaders a game in the Spindle City, but finished tbeir tups there Tuesday, when a double-header was played President Kiernan's club plays a regularly carded game in Woonsocket tomorrow, and as this will be the last chance the teams hare to dear up t-ie postponed game. It win be played off in a bargain day bill. It was arranzed to play a few other postponed games the same way. Mr. Kiernan's team will also play an extra game with Brockton, in view of the fact that the game forfeited to the Cobblers in June by Thomas Gilroy when Fall River did not make the trip on account of the unfavorable weather, was thrown out.

The matte1-was threshed out thoroughly, and it was shown that no chib in New England played on the day in question, and that the only sportsmanlike thing to do was to give the leaders a chance to battle for the decision. The club presidents reported most favorably on the conditions in their respective cities, and a rousing finish is assured It was tbe sense of the meeting that the news be spread broadcast that Secretary Farrell of the National association has been familiar with the working of tho organization (Continued en Paqe Eight.) ft 4 4 Jy cf 't, Vv pj' i I A. -C. Stewart, Massachusetts, waa next with 322 to his credit. change in the schedule of the league would not be made and his opinion proved to be a correct that Manager Kiernan of the locals bad misconstrued the meaning of the letter written him by President Cop-pen and that be did not believe ibe change in schedule would ever have been put through by the league 'moguls. Manager Jack Kiernan had better move slowly in accusing New Bedford of trying to here the Colonial league schedule fixed so that ths Whalers could beat out the Spindles in the race for the rag.
